The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

hi deb, get a answering machine, i set mine at four rings, you'd be surprised at how many telemarketers don't get it that we won't answer, we're also on the do not call list for all the good it does
I do have one... and it has caller ID as well. set on four rings... I may set it to three. Problem is I cannot let it ring... Mom has one of those pendants for when she falls down. it calls the service the service calls me and the fire department...

we dont get cell reception here... Main Trunk Power lines just 100 feet away. The caller Id doesnt come up on the little portable phones we use.

I just have to bite my cheek and let it ring... Like mom does.

You CAN buy a winning ticket. All you have to do is buy tickets with every possible combination of numbers. I don't know that you would come out ahead in the end or not. Plus you'ld have to be a billionaire before you bought the tickets so you could pay for them.

Based on Sean's prior posts, I gather he's been doing it all his life!!! Not sure how he's managed to still be alive.

Yep, those people need to get a life. "Lisa" called yesterday to help us with our student loans. She and her cohorts have been doing this for months. DW got one that offered to extend the warranty on her car. It is 13 years old, I think it is a bit late to extend the warranty that expired many years ago. I've not gotten one on my cell phone, always the house phone but it shows the phone number while it is ringing. "Lisa", of course, is calling from a local exchange ... though I'd bet lunch that "she" isn't.

No problem!!! You've got the skills and the artistic eye. The only thing that could stop you is if you don't have the dexterity any more.

We mostly don't either and never answer an "out of area" call. Pretty much none of them ever leave a message.

You are making an assumption that the bottom isn't soft WAY down and that it is higher than the river it connects to. I'd guess the only way to dredge it would be with trash pumps on a pontoon boat/raft or something similar. Maybe even the big dredges on barges they use to move sand back up onto beaches.
we have a trash pump, but no water to run it and right now husband can't do anything due to the rain we had for two or three days, he tried to dig with a post hole digger to put down new post to put up a new sea wall , it fills in with muck as fast as he digs it out and the bottom, well you would sink down shoulder deep,

Hi Bruce! Have you by any chance talked with Blooie? She was on my mind today.
Nope, she never called back. Not sure if I should call again, I'm thinking of doing so to wish her a Merry Christmas.

The house has had a couple expansions over the years and the old fire place can't keep up.
If it is a plain fireplace, no insert, no "heatilator", it is actually a heat loser unless you have it burning 24x7. Otherwise as the fire cools heat from the house is sucked out the chimney.

And what good does that do the breed!? Selfish people only breeding for money or looks or whatever.... :rant
Nothing! And it isn't new. Find some physical feature you like about a breed and breed to accentuate it. With English Bulldogs it is broad shoulders and narrow hips, the result is the inability to deliver pups naturally. And of course the natural problems with inbreeding.

The caller Id doesnt come up on the little portable phones we use.
Might be time for a trip to the store for new phones? Ours show the caller id both on the 3 handsets and the base unit while it is ringing.

@bruceha2000 there are a lot of breeds that I think are selfish or almost cruel to keep breeding the way that they do. :( like a lot of the brachycephalic breeds. Feel like the noses just keep getting shorter and shorter and shorter. :(

Or like all the working breeds of dogs that can no longer work because it’s been practically bred out or they’re too big/heavy boned now or whatever.

Like with BCs or Labs.

Heck, a lot of the GSDs have such bad hip problems I don’t see how they can possibly work. :(

Not that I have anything against breeders or even show dogs and I love most of these breeds but they’ve gotten so far away from the original purpose.

Unsure about Labs but Goldens were supposed to be pretty lightweight/lean and lighter boned so they could climb into the boats with ease and not tip it over but now most are so heavy there’s no way.

Just keep jumping Cap

Hope you have a good day too! Did you get all your errands run yesterday?
I think I did, heck I can hardly remember what I had for breakfast! Today I went to Lynchburg and bought a washstand.
