The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Thankfully here most of our cashiers are extraordinarily good, but we do have a couple that could use some extra training on how to bag groceries. Then there are those who are overly anal about the law. Technically, if you touch a bottle of wine or beer, you have to be carded. Most just card the payer, especially since it's really obvious that Sue and I are old enough, but every now and again we'll find one who will tell us, if she touches that bag, I'll have to card her. Yes, it's the law... So I'll go put that bag in the cart. Same with liquor stores here, they card everyone who comes in the door, at least the first time.

Technically here in CA Alcahol cannot leave the store unless its in a bag or container of some sort. but since they are curbing the use of plastic bags They are allowing people to walk out with a bottle of just about anything in their hands. Strange to see a bottle of Jack Daniels or Jameson walking out the door with a human attached to it.

You see lots of people just wheeling their baskets out with everything loose in there just so they dont have to pay Fifteen Cents for a bag.

I just don’t get the run on toilet paper, of all things! What in the world that has to do with Coronavirus......makes you wonder, doesn’t it? I can almost see sanitizers and cleaning products, but toilet paper? The lemming mentality of human beings astounds me at times.

IM, what are they, turkeys? They’re loving that sunshine!! No babies here this spring. I’ve got 11 chickens now and that’s about 4 too many. I can’t give eggs away right now, and goodness knows I’m trying! Now that I can’t eat egg yolks, most of the joy of cooking and eating eggs is gone.

I went in to buy smokes once. The sign behind the counter said, “If you do not look 26, we will card you.” So I stood there, and stood there. Finally the cashier asked me there was something else I needed. I said, “Nope” and pointed at the sign. Then I asked him, “Do I LOOK 26 to you?” He looked at the sign again, back at me, then a big grin came over his face as he asked me for my ID. Made the day for both of us, I think.

I just don’t get the run on toilet paper, of all things! What in the world that has to do with Coronavirus......makes you wonder, doesn’t it? I can almost see sanitizers and cleaning products, but toilet paper? The lemming mentality of human beings astounds me at times.

I don't understand the tp thing either B. From everything I've read about the virus, diarrhea is not an issue. The only thing I can figure is people are leery about leaving home so they're stocking up on basics.

Yep I find it a big adjustment when I was living up on the mountain just sixty miles away.

When were you here? I been here since 1967 Back when there were alot more horses than there are now.

Good afternoon Deb, how's your day been?

My days tend to be pretty much the same. I get out now and then to enjoy natural light. Even just sitting in the car is wonderful. The house is Cold and dark... Drapes are pulled all the time. No heat usually. So I get out as much as I can. even Eat in the car rather than go in the house.

LOL now that i have a Walker specifically for walking. I want to get my weak leg stronger as well as the rest of me stronger. The only exercise I ever liked was walking. With the dogs or Goats... Walking with goats takes a long stick. LOL but worth it to see the antics.

Blooie, mob/panic mentality is just plain crazy. People have become soooo very accustomed to not needing to be prepared that the mere thought of a problem sends them into a panic. It's like surgical masks... Every medical professional out there has said they won't protect against the virus, but hysteria shopping has put them in short supply for those who really need them.

As for your carding story, I have one too. Hope I don't get hit for this one... It was about 15 years ago. Sue and I were out for dinner at a new restaurant with our 4 year old granddaughter. Sue was driving so I had a couple of drinks. I ordered a refill and went out for a smoke. The waitress came out to me and said if she delivered the glass to the table she'd have to card my daughter. I broke out in a fit of laughter and told her to do it, that by doing so she would significantly enhance her tip. Just for the record, Sue and I are four months apart in age. So she did it. I was watching through the window and I think Sue actually blushed when asked for her ID. But I was right, that girl got a 30% tip that night.

I think it was 2004. My DIL at the time kicked my son out after draining all the bank accounts, I was on a road trip to Chicago, so Sue jumped a flight to San Diego and as soon as I was done in Chicago, I grabbed a flight as well. We got him set up in an apartment and I stayed there for about six months. Luckily I could and did work from anywhere. It became a good excuse for my customer to visit airports in CA.

I was in Utah cheking the town out to see if I wanted to move there. Trip paid for by the company I was working for. The laws there were perplexing... Night Clubs were private clubs you had to join and bring your own alcahol. Which was kept behind the counter and served up by the waitress.

Then in the restaurant at the hotel you had to get up from your table go into the lobby to the "package" store and buy a bottle of wine. Bring it in the restaurant and Pay the Waitress a 5 dollar corkage fee. To open your bottle.

We were only there for two nights so didnt get to discover more of the city.
