Omg that's funny. Thank you for sharing! I did drive from home to Lexington KY a couple months ago to meet another BYC member. Got hatching eggs and 4 bantam chicks. The ride home was longer than the trip there, because we made more stops on the way home. One was a tractor supply, and bought some feed, and bottled water for them. They would be mad if they know how many mcdonalds we passed. Not so bad....I did it last year. Traveled from Northwestern Wyoming to Eastern South Dakota two days before Thanksgiving with 6 chickens in the back. We were taking them back so my brother could add them to his small flock. Barely heard a peep out of them, but a cecal poop or two on a 12 hour drive can get a bit disconcerting! We looked at it this way - if the weather went to Hades in a handbasket, we'd at least have fresh eggs and meat on hand. Whut? Worked on ships for the pilgrims! They were such good girls. We stopped at the halfway point and went into McDonald's for a quick bite to eat before we hit the road for the last half of the trip. I decided maybe they'd appreciate some fresh greens - or as fresh as the greens at McDonald's ever get - to supplement the food we'd put in their box. Got them a Southwestern chicken salad. So funny!! Didn't want to get them anything that came with stuff on it that was bad for them, so I asked what was on that. The young lady behind the counter said, "Greens, corn, beans, chicken - either grilled or crispy - ....." I totally lost it. I was laughing so hard I had to grab the counter. Finally spit out that I had 6 live chickens in my van that I was getting the salad for. l. She looked a little flumoxed and stuttered that she could make one without the chicken. Told her to leave it on but take off the lime/cilantro dressing. Didn't want to remind them they were on a Margarita-free trip By the time I had that salad in my hand I'd made their day - and any customers close enough to hear this conversation as well. By the way,if you ever do travel with chickens, they DO love the Southwestern chicken salad.![]()
