Thanks Eggsy. I want to start small, DH is more of a "go big or go home" kind of guy.

One thing someone told us yesterday was to use cheese wax to keep the bugs from eating the plugs. Things like that made it worth going to. And the oyster mushrooms really caught my fancy. They were growing them in clear bags of mulch stuff and hanging them in the shade from tree limbs.

It will be fun to research it all anyway.
 
I think there are several places where we can get the stuff to start. They were selling the plugs yesterday but since we aren't ready, we didn't bring any home.

'Shrooms have been popping up on a few I've been on lately. Love that fungi stuff!

Had to work yesterday - showed a new co-worker my Iive camera streaming view of my small flock.

How much fun to discover she is a Fellow Crazy Chicken Lady with a flock of SIXTY CHICKENS.

She reached into her pocket to get her phone to show me some pics of her flock and pulled out a bantam egg! She didn't remember it was in her pocket...

Honest, she had an egg in her pocket, and so lucky to have found it and not leaned up against something.

We were in the 30's last night, guess it's here to stay for a few days. Boo-hiss!
 
Sunflower, that was serendipity - what are the odds of meeting a new coworker and having her with an egg in her pocket.? I hope she is a Bycer
 
Sunflower, that is so funny.
I have- my husband has- a barn coat that I wear, and I have forgotten eggs in the big pockets before.

Eggs, I wonder when that will ever happen again?
I am not sure I am ready for more chicks yet.
But the girls are not earning their feed anymore.
