The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Yes, he doesn't have one. I did post his picture and story on the FL state thread, long shot but just in case someone recognized him. The humane shelter offered to take him but only to euthanize and the local rescue people don't have room for any more dogs but they said to check back in a couple weeks. Heck, by then we'll be too attached to let him go. DH came home from work tonight with a new collar, leash, chew toy, brush and food bowl. He said hello to the dog before he said hi to me, lol.

Sounds like you have a new dog

He appears to be a very mellow affectionate dog. I walked into TSC during one of their adoption days several years ago. Of course I had to go and look at all of the dogs. There was a large black male pit in one of the crates. When he saw me, he came to life and almost shook his crate apart he was wagging his entire body so vigorously. The people there asked me if I 'knew' him and said that they had never seen him react to anyone like that before. I must have either smelled or looked like someone who had been good to him at one point in his life. Yes, I was tempted to take him, but we already had a golden in the house, and the Princess is a bit leery of strange large dogs. I actually felt guilty about leaving him there. I've always wondered where he ended up.

That would have been a hard situation to walk away from sour, I would have felt guilty too. This guy is the biggest creampuff, he just swallows up all the attention and looks up at you with those pretty yellow eyes. When I sit down, he sits on my feet or lays his head in my lap and he adores DH already. I never would have purposely gone out looking for a pit but this guy in no way lives up to the reputation they have. Yeah, we may have a new dog (unless someone shows up that can prove 100% that he is theirs).

There are 'pits', and then there are 'pits'. We used to compete at UKC sponsored obedience trials. These trials were run in conjunction with conformation shows. By far the largest classes were the pits. Across the board they were very mellow and overly affectionate beautiful animals. Given their reputation I asked several of the owners about them. If a dog so much as growls at a judge, handler, owner or other dog he is dismissed from that class - after a certain number of disqualifications they may never be shown again.

He's a good looking boy. I would be falling in love too. Did you name him yet?

On the same note anyone else watching the Westminster dog show?

Funny, we were tossing names out to him tonight on the off chance he would respond to one. We'll have to come up with something, all our animals (except 4 rabbits) have names.

What's going on with the Westminster show...I read they were going to have some new breeds this year.

Yeah a few breeds I don't recognize, the borzoi just won the hound group. I have a dog addiction, gotta get my fix. I watch that show pit bulls and parolees, pits seem to be great dogs.
