The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hi Blooie - have you tried e-cigarettes? - not quite the same as the real deal, but maybe they could be a half-way house between smoking and not smoking at all? I'm making this suggestion as a smoker - i understand the challenges ahead.

Cheers

@Blooie Have you thought about trying hypnosis to quit the habit? It worked for me :D I was VERY sceptical about it but was willing to give it try and it actually worked!! Was such a relaxing experience and not what I was expecting but had good results.

It's a good thought, YC, but in an area of the country where there are only two stoplights in all of Big Horn County, the nearest fast food joint is a 25 mile drive one way, and most of my medical stuff is done 100 miles away, hypnotists are far and few between! There are only 600 people in Cowley and as far as I know, none are qualified. :(

I tried hypnosis in 1995, worked for about a week. Spent a fortune on a good e-cig and it works when I feel like letting it work. I take it hunting with me sometimes, so the deer dont smell it :D
I've quit so many times... But somehow always relapse. I just really like it, and my willpower loses more than it wins.

And that pretty much sums it up!! I enjoy my cigs! There, I said it! Doctor asked me how soon after getting up did I light up the first one. I just told him, "You don't understand. I get up TO have my first one, even if that's 3 am." Yep, after 52 years, that's how bad it gets. Yet I have no problem not lighting up around the grandkids. Drove from Denver to home with Jenny on oxygen and a newborn with a 3 inch incision on her back and had two smokes in that 12 hours - at rest areas in the pouring rain. I don't smoke in the house when Kendra's here either. So why is it so hard to take that one more step?

With just 600 people the odds sure are against there being a hypnotist amongst you guys!! E-cig is a good idea though, the other half has one, but then again still smokes real ones too :/
E cig is because he's not allowed to smoke real ones in the house!!

That's the downside, the will power that's still required :barnie

At least you are honest Blooie that you enjoy having one!! With a cup of coffee in the morning :drool

I think it's just because you can when the kids are not there. How the mind works and that little voice that says you can't when they are. Kids are powerful motivators!!

The other great motivator was having oxygen going into Jenny and 6 spare tanks in the back end of the van. I might not be the brightest crayon in the box but even I didn't want to driving a ticking time bomb up the interstate at 70 mph!

Blooie, copied from another thread.

I found your greatest motivator!!

I wasn't going to post this because it seemed kinda like patting myself on the back.  But after typing it in a PM to another good friend, I decided that the love little kids are capable of understanding is too precious not to share.  So I just got off the phone with Katie a little while ago.  We were talking about what happened, and why it's just not a good idea for her to come and visit right now. (The entire family over there is wiped out with bad colds)  She told me this:

"Gramma, your heart just got tired because it's always so busy loving everybody."

Well, my heart might not be in perfect shape, and it may still be healing, but after that I can tell you that it certainly is a little warmer than it was an hour ago.  :love

They need you around to keep loving them.
