I lit a fire already, Chris, but not with wood. Can't put in a fireplace or a wood stove in this old place or we lose our "homeowner's" insurance coverage. But several years ago I bought a ventless fireplace that burns gel fuel so I got that going a bit ago. It's taking the edge off but since, like all of these places, the layout is basically a long, narrow hallway, the heat stays focused just in the living room. So that's where I'm sitting with my iPad for as long as that darn thing stays charged.

Deb by, the one thing going in your favor is those widow crews can work pretty fast and efficiently when they're working out in the cold!

had a great time roughing it in the outdoors.......but I am glad to be back, and able to take a real shower......

my wife is happy I can take a real shower too........

what's wrong with wood smoke cologne.

I was breathing well all night.... Little Seven slept on the floor.
I got up to use the bathroom and picked him up and brought him to bed. My breathing went south.... :/

Yeah, they hatched yesterday - some little EE's that I'm hoping will be blue egg layers. They are an "almost Araucana" (Araucana and some kinda bantam) and BLH X. Oh and another dual purpose bird X in this pic. I got 7 from 7 hatched from the EE's, so thats good at least



I'm planning on keeping a couple of cockerels to ultimately breed back to the mother.

Very cute and 7 out of 7 is a great hatch!

I think they're planning on them being hard to remove. These old things have been painted and caulked over several times. We can't open them but you can see daylight around most of the edges. I'm hoping the new windows will actually open (at least come warm weather)...what a concept, right? Windows that open AND close.

I feel ya there. Most of my windows don't open and the ones that do, are very hard to open and it's not effective with the storm windows to block the air. I've used duct tape to hold the screens to the upper storm windows because the spring brackets to lock them in, are all broken off. So I can't open them at all. *sigh* Then I get the added pleasure, that when the wind blows just right, they make farting noises. New window are in my future. But I also need new siding. So saving up for a two in one deal.

We sort of lucked out with this house...it's a perk from the company. So with all it's problems, we always tell each other "at least it's free". And since the company picks up the utility bills, I have zero qualms about cranking the heat up in every room. Maybe that's why they're finally replacing the windows, they've been watching those heating bills grow!
