The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I always lick the beaters or the spatula when I'm done with them. You can kinda gage the overall flavor of certain pies. Not so much apple pie, though. I found out the secret to a really good cherry pie was a little almond extract.

Tut .. too late now but I will remember that for next year .. thank you

Good morning everyone! Busy day today - we always do our Christmas at daughter Tammy's on Christmas Eve, so I have a ton of stuff to get ready and then get taken over there. I'll take everything over except the ham and the mashed taters....want those hot and fresh when we get ready to eat. Have to wait until around noon to take over the other goodies and the gifts though because she worked last light. She goes in at 6 in the evening and gets off at 7 in the morning. She needs little time to sleep before the hoard descends on her! She also has to work tonight and tomorrow night. She doesn't have to go in until 11 tonight which gives us a little more time to spend together. We'll probably eat at around 4, help her clean up, and then do the kids' presents. After we get home, Little Diane and Dustin can help us put stuff away, then I'll get at making my pies.

We don't do pie on Christmas Eve. Everyone is always so stuffed anyway and of course the kids just want to get at those packages! So on Christmas Day everyone comes here and we have little ham sandwiches on rolls, munch on whatever else was leftover, and then do pies and desserts. It makes for a wonderful "unwind" day. Last year on Pie Day Katie and I managed to knock my Gingerbread Chicken Coop onto the floor and it smashed into a million pieces! That was so doggone funny!! This year we have Dustin and Little Diane. So every Christmas the memories become more special. Katie and Evan have been practicing the story of Christmas (and believe me, with all the quick "practices" if I didn't know it before I darn sure do now) and we are looking forward to how they'll act it out. The first year they did it they tried to get Kendra to be Baby Jesus. Um, that didn't work so well. She had just learned to crawl. Yeah. "Baby Jesus" was a bit of wanderer and "Mary" and "Joseph" had to keep catching her and putting her back where they wanted her. Hilarious! And it's never done the same way twice. Hmm, that's kinda like the story, isn't it? Always new and fresh and amazing!

I hope your homes and hearts are filled with as much peace and love as ours is right now. Regardless of your traditions, enjoy every minute of this joyous time but be ready to flow with a glitch and a surprise tossed in every once in awhile.

Teila, your pies look delicious. And I see Santa and his reindeer too!!
