Here are a few local snaps that I could find:


A forest gecko who used to live at the museum until they didn't want to pay someone to look after the live exibits.

Here is the Muriwai Gannet Colony. Muriwai is a wild, west coast beach.




Here are a couple of photos of our native wood pigeon known as the Kereru.
They sometimes eat berries that ferment in their stomachs, making them drunk and causing them to fall out of trees. I kid you not!



This is a local mini waterfall that's just a short bushwalk away.


Here are a couple of local beaches:




This is our Pohutukawa tree which flowers around Christmas time, often referred to as New Zealand's Christmas tree. They are a coastal tree and happily live right by the beach, often clinging to cliff faces.


And here's a view out to Rangitoto Island which is a dormant volcano (I sure hope she keeps sleeping).



Auckland is sadly becoming very built up and expensive so eventually we are hoping to find somewhere to move where we can have enough space for a few (more) animals. New Zealand is an amazing country as there is so much variety packed into two small islands. And it's still a pretty safe place to be. We've started getting Al Jazeera news on a channel over here and I enjoy watching it as I actually feel like I know what's going on in the world. By comparison, a leading story on a New Zealand news channel was that a fire truck had flipped on its way to an emergency! That did make me laugh! It also makes me realise how lucky we are.

Good luck to those men bravely facing surgery (and the women who will be overseeing their recovery)!

My pet gadget-hate is the mobile phone .. I do not want it to take pictures, or send e.mails, or browse the internet, or wake me up, or schedule an appointment etc .. I just want to make and receive phone calls! ;) I have at least 15 stuffed toys in sight around the house and 3 bags full of them in the cupboard .. gunna have to part with them when we move but Coffee and Cream are definitely coming with us, along with some others :D Coffee, Cream and Syba
