The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

So, you guys n’ gals and the squirrel talk got me to thinking about weird recipes and there is a site with the top 16!

Fried Twinkies [now I have to look up Twinkies! :lau]

Upper Michigan Pasties [nothing weird sounding about that .. note to look up ingredients ;)]

Frito Pie [sounds OK too :idunno]

Fried Milk [ah, so now we are getting to weird :hmm]

Chocolate Salami [yep, definitely in the weird zone now!]

Oven-Fried Pickles [I would try those]

Frogs Legs [Pass!]

Spam Sushi [Huge Pass!]

Fried Kool-Aid [moving on from weird to bizarre]

Watergate Salad :idunno [looks like ice cream in the picture]

Jalapeno Ice Cream [Pass on the Jalapeno but ++ on the Tequila :p]

Alligator Bites [Yep, from what I have heard, they do that if you get close enough ;)]

Chocolate Covered Bacon [we have moved on from weird and bizarre to just plain gross! :sick]

Waffled Pizza Dippers [interesting .. I did however initially read Diapers :lau]

The Garbage Plate [not touching that one!]

Kool-Aid Pickles [moving on to ‘not a chance’ now!]

That all sounds disgusting lol

Although fried snacks are actually pretty common. At all the fairs now they have food trucks with that stuff. Even a concert i went to over the summer. They had a truck with just fried stuff, like desserts. Fried oreos, fried twinkies, fried candy bars, Fried pickles, etc. Etc. seems like a heart attack waiting to happen. It sounds kind of good but so unhealthy i couldnt try it. I loveeeeee fried dough though. Do you have that in Australia?

There's a wild food festival they do down south - all sorts of weird stuff. Here's a list from their website: "In 2017 the iconic Festival huhu grubs were on the menu again along with mountain oysters, duck heads, crocodile bites, fish eyes, scorpions, pork blood casserole, baby octopus, worms, deep fried pigs ears, snails and much more!"

Ewww! Especially those huhu grubs! Those things are freaky - I'd definitely be eating squirrel in preference to one of those!

Fried dough sounds yummy but we don't have that in NZ. We have fried Mars bars though. Haven't tried one and not planning to. Just doesn't appeal to me. But that chocolate covered bacon I could do. I like sweet and salty together. I often crave cheese after chocolate, or chocolate after I've eaten cheese.

I've seen places offering DEEP fried Twinkies. I can live without them. And the burgers with bacon, 2-3 kinds of cheese, fried egg on top etc.- yes, indeed, a heart attack waiting to happen.

Yup, definitely! I don't get how people eat those burgers! Or like double stacked with piles of bacon on it. I think I've even seen some with onion rings on them.
