Kdog you've got to get serious if you continue to have high blood sugar. I can tell you all about my brother. Developed type 1 when he just started college. My mother thought he had the flu and because he was constantly thirsty she kept giving him apple juice. He was getting worse and ambulance took him to hospital.

Despite having very high blood sugar, his regular doctor said needed his appendix removed. Fortunately another doctor overheard that and took my mother aside and said my brother had diabetes and didn't need surgery. Well his call was the right one.
I've had type 1 since I was 10 years old. :(

I got a request to do a VIP interview! do you think i should?
Apparently no one wants to do them lately, go for it. I did one a few years ago.

This is for you Kdog. My brother was diagnosed when he started college.

My brother is 67 , has had a quadruple by-pass years ago, has Pacemaker & de-fib thing and insulin pump. Don't know where they find room for everything. He always ate healthy but too much. Didn't exercise. Has many specialists involved.

Had a cataract removed and problems afterwards. Was sent to another doctor, who caused a tear in his retina. Another dr. tried to repair made it worse. Finally found good retinologist but, is legally blind in that eye.

He has neuropathy in feet -achieving some comfort thru lidocaine patches but, they must be re-positioned often due to irritation at site. He is on meds for high blood pressure, chloresterol, etc. etc. I can't even begin to spell most of his meds.

Since being diagnosed he has been very rigid about following doctor's orders. He has some OCD which makes it easier for him to do. Since his heart surgery he has been in
physical rehab and follows up even in the nasty weather we are having.

He has other damage brought about by his diabetes. He tests for blood sugar several times a day. It takes a great deal of time, energy and comittment to handle all this., and good medical coverage.

Please make your health a priority in your life.

X2, it is a lot easier to lose when you are young.

Folks probably have their own reasons for not doing member interviews. I think a large part of it is that BYC is global with thousands of members . Interviews may draw out facts that make the member more prone to unwanted attention. The world is not the big, safe place we may have thought it was.

I have come to love mushrooms and brussel sprouts roasted in the oven with some olive oil and salt and pepper. I like all my vegetables roasted actually. We make them all the time, now I'm drooling. :drool

That sounds pretty good!

Our son is exactly the same. He is a fruit-a-holic. The pineapple that was chopped up yesterday afternoon was gone by midday today. Blueberries, apples, strawberries, oranges, mandarins, pears, nectarines, grapes - they just vanish! He'd live on fruit given half a chance. I'm bad because I leave the fruit for the kids rather than eat any myself. I need to plant an orchard!

I also love fruit

Wow that's all really scary!! :(

Tonight I had a tuna sandwich so I wouldn't be hungry and snack later and I even cooked up some spinach kale mix in olive oil and ate it. And I thought I was being pretty healthy. Had a greek yogurt too

But now, 3 or 4 hours later, i just had a bowl of lucky charms :(

I'm glad the box is almost gone though. In fact, maybe I will just throw the box out....

And another yogurt.

But why must I eat when i just had a big sandwich?

And we also just bought a bunch of snacks. Saltines, peanut butter crackers, smart pop popcorn (supposedly healthier), pita chips, and pretzel thins. Of course all of those are carbs and probably unhealthy too but my point is that they are probably at least healthier than freaking lucky charms and i could have had any one of those instead, and in fact did consider it, but noooooo. I had to have lucky charms. :(

<PLOP> Honeys...I'm home! Didja miss me?

Of course we missed you! How's your day been?

I was rinsing off some dishes this afternoon under the cold tap, except it wasn't cold at all! I measured it out of curiosity. Almost 80F! We could've gone swimming in our water tanks!

That sounds pretty good!

Is it 'that time of the month' for you maybe? I can find myself insatiable when it's that time, craving all the bad stuff. Winter doesn't help with that either.

Kdog a doctor could hook you up with a nutritionalist- to show you what good foods you can eat and how to handle moderate snacking by giving good snack choices. Also eat slower and pay attention to what/how much you are eating. If you are texting or watching tv etc., you don't realize how much you eat.

Also with your snack take a sensible amount on a plate, and put the box away immediately, before you go and take more.

x2 on what Jae said.

Once a month I have one day where I just can not seem to satisfy my hunger and could eat all day!

Sorry to change the subject completely but just wanted to share some pictures ....

So, this is the bird's nest fern my neighbour gave me; she was right, it was a tad on the pot bound side :p

In it's new home:

This is one side, under the house which is my 'tropical plant' oasis:

This is the other side where I have some vegies and herbs:

This is that last 'corner' I mentioned. This looked pretty much the same as the rest of the jungle; overgrown etc. Now ready for the beautiful ground cover my neighbour is giving me:

The view from the compost bins .. lots of bare patches from removed jungle but the lawn is slowly spreading and now I have the green ants in the citrus trees under control, they are starting to look healthier:
