San Antonio's traffic usually isn't that bad. At least you have 4 or 5 different ways to go to get to your destination, unlike Dallas, Austin and Houston, those cities are the worse to drive.
Don't forget to include Denver, CO in that bad traffic mix. Ever since pot was legalized, the city has been over run with new residents. Traffic is a nightmare...bad enough, long time residents are moving out (and making a lot of money on selling their homes).

X2 I know I used to love the river walk in San Antonio in the fall, especially when the flutes were playing. Of course, I always got stationed there in spring and summer.

Yeah, I haven't done the river walk thing for a couple of years now, last time I was on the river was during El Dia de los Muertas. That's a fun time to be there!
Driving on ice scares the crap out of everyone who has done it Deb! Nothing like the feeling of NO control. I once rear ended DW on ice. We had gone to pick up my car after it was serviced. She was at the red light, ready to turn right, no traffic anywhere. I was coming down the hill, not doing even 5 MPH I don't think. Stopping short was not an option and her getting going quickly wasn't either. Just a small tap though, no damage.
I was on the freeway it had been snowing and raining and snowing... Dually pickup truck.... Fishtailed down the hill... Fortunately for me everyone else was doing seventy and going around me.... I backed off and down shifted till i could feel some control... down to 45 and off to the next off ramp and around and back....
Some of the idiots were still barreling off into the distance....
Some of the tourists come from Mexico to see the snow.....
Every place that has tourism as part of their economy has horrible traffic.
New York city
San Diego
Los Angeles
San Francisco
San Antonio
Chicago
You name it... But that traffic is seasonal.... somewhat. Eastern cities have old infrastructure. Historic roads meant for Tin Lizzies or horse drawn vehicles. I am sure some have been placed on historic lists. I would love to visit but cant walk the tours... But living there is out of the question for me.
I am most comfortable in the desert... I understand it the seasonal changes. I have only driven on snow a handful of times... Ice only once.... scared the crap outa me.
maybe if you lived outside of the city it wouldn't be as bad but i know you couldn't pay me enough to live in pgh, i'm very thankful that husband was from a small town in the country or otherwise i would have been divorced and living in florida again
Right!? Very lucky! I am amazed it didn't get hit. And yes, I'm very thankful to that kind man that stopped to rescue the kitten. I can't believe no one else stopped or that people were getting mad at him for stopping! Well, thankfully she will now hopefully have a very good home with him.

Not necessarily. Some cities have mass transit that goes out a ways. You could drive to the terminal parking area and take the public transit in to the city.
You will hit some traffic now going up I-5 but not that much. Sacramento traffic is worse going over the Yolo Bypass. 80 goes from 3 to two lanes there. Then it is bad going from 5 through the city towards 50.
The I-80 slow downs spills over to my commute home on hwy 113. For some reason Google sends drivers that say. I have been driving home that way for over 20 years and it has gotten bad the bast 5 years or so
I went down to my bird shed this morning to hear that male quail going nutty, then I heard a baby peeping! Sure enough there was one in there being protected by the older hen. I whipped the baby out to get it out of harms way, popped it with the other three, then went back and got this hen, whose name is Spicey, and took her in to the babies in the hopes that she'd adopt them. Not sure what I was worried about as she's been helping to raise babies since she was still a baby herself. She's such a honey and went right to teaching them how to find food and letting them snuggle under her. Phew! Less work for me and no heat lamp required.
Yesterday was good. I'd had a terrible nights sleep as those 3 baby quail kept losing each other and peeping loudly, so at 1am I got up and moved them into the laundry. After that I just dozed and had weird dreams. Anyway, we decided that, for what we want to do especially, there just wasn't good enough site access for a truck with a house on it to get in. And it's south facing, which for us in the Southern Hemisphere isn't good. It's just so lovely seeing all the birds - there was a hawk circling, kingfisher and fantail flitting about.
We got a tour of two other blocks that still have pine trees on them yet to be cleared but they will be up for sale at some point. They are much bigger (3 and almost 4 times as big so it was a good walk) and we really don't need that much land, they would still have the stumps all over them, don't have power to them, so not sure they are for us. A neighbour who has been there 20 years showed us around. He was a real character but so nice. We saw wild turkey and there are even peacocks living wild there - we could hear them and we saw one as it dashed off into the bush. We saw Paradise ducklings too with their Mum. It was beautiful under the trees and one property gets a gorgeous view out to the estuary from one point. There are a couple of other properties we can look at but after our big walk we were parched - it was a really hot day, and it was getting late for getting back to the kids. So we shall see.
Auckland traffic is terrible no matter what time of day and public transport is useless unless you are moving around the inner city. I'm very glad we went up yesterday as it's Labour weekend here which means everyone will be coming back from their long weekend away today. The traffic will be shocking today.
