The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Lol, I enjoyed watching Mr. Rogers more than my kids did. He was a bit too low-key for them :)

Yeah, I think he was definitely a little bit more boring than some of the other shows on, like zooboomafoo, or outside the box, or bear in the big blue house, or zoom, and Sesame Street, and all those type shows but still good lessons on his show. And nowadays it would probably be even more boring due to all the colors and fancy technology and cgi lol

65° and sunny down here in the dirty deep south. Moved to Opelika,Al last November when I married " the sweetest man I know" moved into his home and realized that I don't know one single soul anywhere near! Odd for me,but when I left Baton Rouge I left a huge base of dear, dear friends:some of whom had become the family I never had. No kids, both parents deceased, and 1 uncle (now also deceased) and 1 aunt in WA. state.
Never saw it to be an issue cause I worked 10 hour days and volunteered at an animal rescue. Now I don't work owing to health issues. So hubs got me the flock of chooks that were my lifelong dream! That's how I found y'all. Guess what I'm saying is "Thank you for being here!" You have become friends and have provided valued info to help me keep my little flock healthy and all of us happy!

Fun picture, I'm glad you shared it! Did you enjoy volunteering for the dinner yesterday? That's a really nice thing for your boss (and the volunteers) to do!

He's slowly getting better and his limp is gone. He's still not his normal rambunctious self but is acting like he is enjoying more of his usual things, like sitting on the couch with DH and I.

Funny, Pip and Bam Bam seem to think they need to fill in for Opie's lack of orneriness. Those 2 have more than made up for Opie!

Thanks for asking Michelle :hugs
The volunteering ended up being rather boring. We cut up the squares and that was about it. There's this young girl that works there who tries her hardest to be the owner's pet. As soon as she heard that I was volunteering she decided that she had to too. She showed up and stuck to Kim like glue, and pushed everyone else aside. I carved turkey too.

We had a heavy snowfall yesterday, so not very many people came. Evidently last year about 60 came. This year 20 at the most.

My boss did give me the best Christmas present though. Currently they only serve store bought pies and muffins. In the new year I'm going to start being an in house baker!

Pleased to meet you @Bamabexchicks ! I'm Michelle. I grew up in a big city (Toronto), but now live rurally (an hour Northwest of Edmonton Alberta). It's always been a lifelong dream to farm and I'm very slowly getting there.
Other than not knowing a soul, how was your adjustment to life in Alabama? Are you living rurally?

Hi Michelle! I have always wanted to see Canada but never got closer than Toledo! Lol!
I like it here alot. Lots cleaner and less humid than LA, and we go "home" for Mardi Gras every year, plus Mother's day for fresh crawfish...kinda the best of both worlds. Hubs is retired so we're together just about 24/7...it's all good.
We have 2 acres in the thriving rural area called Beauregard...most people have at least heard of Opelika so I referenced it intead. We are in the process of fencing the spare lot in Hope's of keeping some livestock and allowing the "girls" to free range more than just the back yard. I'm supposed to be getting some call ducks after the holidays,so we will dig a small pond. Hopefully that will keep em out of our swimming pool! Also building up a nice compost bin to have a garden patch.
Hubs and I both grew up with horses so that's not out of the question, but time will tell

I love baking! Made a sweet potato pie for dinner at SILs yesterday and making a cherry pie to take to BILs dinner in Atlanta this weekend. I drain a jar of Maraschino cherries and add to the pie filling to fancy it up some. Also doing a lattice top for this one...my mom could kill it on cherry pies,so its gotta be a good one, right?!
