I did thank you (and it's lovely you all were thinking of me). It's a busy time in our family for birthdays. We have 5 in the space of 4 and a half weeks. Very bad planning right after Christmas.

Thankfully we have some kikuya grass here that grows no matter how dry it gets. All the annual grasses went to seed and died off. The cattle have been enjoying the reeds down by the road though which is good because they are massive and weedy. A lot of what's brown on our place are weed seed heads that are too tough for the cattle to eat. I wanted to lop them all off but we don't want to use anything that could create a spark at the moment as it's so dry. The poor farmers are having to cull stock and use feed that should be saved for winter. Thankfully we have enough grass and water to see us through.

I love it here so much! DH is still working in Auckland (so I feel like he's hardly ever here) but he's suggested that he take over the part of the business that he could do from here and he'd just go down to Auckland once a week for a day. His boss sounded keen on that but he's got to clear it with higher bosses. Fingers crossed.

I hope that works out with the job, it would be nice to not have to travel so much and more help around the place.

:fl That would be great, I'm sure the drive down is long and less than exciting is the drive back ... other than all the idiot commuters that can't figure out they get there just as fast by staying in their lane rather than weaving trying so hard to get behind the vehicle in front of the one they are behind.

Our chickens like to stay under their trees which is probably a good thing seeing as we have a lot of bantams and hawks often cruise by. But it would be nice if they strolled a little further and did a bit of work for me. I'd like to get some guinea fowl as an early warning system where hawks are concerned, but I'm worried they'll go on the road seeing as we have a big road frontage, and it's a highway so it can be quite busy at times. I do want to plant up along the road to give us a bit of privacy and provide more shade for livestock. But there's no point trying to plant anything at the moment. It's just too dry.

DH drives a small car (as it's so economic to run) so everyone feels the need to go past him then, much to his frustration, slows down. And yes, Auckland traffic is horrendous.

Good afternoon IM :frow it's been a really good and busy day for us. We had to take trash to the dump, get feed and groceries. We did make time to stop at the Tennessee Legend Distillery for our second tasting and have a nice lunch after :drool
Hope your day is great as well :)
