My gosh, everyones GSD's are just beautiful!!!
I have my first GSD, and I just love her to death.
Her name is Rio, I adopted her from a rescue. Her story has a sad start, she was seized from some people that had 2, her and a male. After several warnings to the old owners, no food, water or shelter, both of the dogs were taken. She made her way to a local rescue, who called me knowing I wanted a GSD. I went down to meet her, she was so so skinny it brought tears to my eyes, but she was so sweet I knew I had to have her. She had just come to the rescue the night before, but the rescue lady knows me, had already done the home evaluation, and let me take her home that day. This was on a Sunday, and I had her at the vet first thing Monday morning. The vet was shocked, to say the least. She only weighed 66 pounds, her coat was in terrable shape, it looks like she had a collar or chain grow into her neck (she still has white scaring hair around her neck), she had a big hernia, I could go on and on. She wasn't fixed, and the vet said she was way too skinny to do it right then. She got her shots, wormed and he sent us home with instructions to start feeding her quality food and get some weight on her. Well, seeing as nothing is skinny around here, I started her slowly on good food, joint supplements, fish oil, and got some weight on her. A trip or two to the groomer and her coat got nice and shiney. 5 weeks after I got her, she had enough weight on her to be fixed. Off to the vet we go and I drop her off. Got home and the vet called, he had her open and low and behold, she is pregnant. I had to make the tough choice to abort the pups, I still feel awful about it, but the vet said it was the right thing to do because of her being so malnurished. I have had her 9 months now, she is up to 86 pounds and just a wonderful dog, so sweet and loving. She has no enemys and loves everyone.
I will try and get this picture thing figured out and post some of Rio and her sister Daisy (a yellow Lab mix)
