The Oh-so neighbor!

I guess I am blessed with good neighbors. Both of them said that I needed to get a rooster

We live in a township. I talked to my only neighbor that doesn't have chickens, and told her that if my birds were a problem for her, let me know. She said they weren't a problem, she hears them crowing. I told her, "Oh no, that one's not mine, mine aren't crowing yet" She thinks the chickens are great, and doesn't have a problem with them going thru the trees in to her yard, but warned me that her dog might chase them back. The guy across the street, he has a neighbor on the other side with a roo that goes off every morning too. No problems. Then there are the people in the apts at the other end... LOL. I worry that one of them might come and get dinner one day! But in all we have 6 roosters from 4 different coops... So good luck picking out whose is the noisiest!

I truly respect my neighbor even though they always seem to be the ones with the complaint about something, honestly. They at one point a few years ago politely complained about my son & his friend building a fort in some pine trees. The trees are ours, planted 50 yrs. ago by my grandfather and on our property! He nonchalantly told me that pine sap is very hard to get out of clothes and that it looks like the fort and the items on the ground (bike, backpack, boy stuff) belongs to them because the trees run along the property line and he has a driveway which runs directly parallel on his property to his pole barn. Soooo people are going think it's his fort and stuff. Really.....come on ....and my roo does crow but not that much, seriously he doesn't. I guess I just had to vent because they nit-pic about everything and I'm very good & christian like about ignoring it and going on with life. The extra roosters were just a humorous thought.
Also our propoerty is zoned and protected under farming & homestead act. If I wanted to I could legally get a donkey and he couldn't do a thing about it. Plus, we're not talking some elderly man. I'm in my 40's and this guy & his wife are only 10 yrs. older max. and I know that for a fact. I guess some people are never happy unless they have something to complain about!

My neighbor once mentioned our roosters and the noise. I then mention that her horses neigh, and I really am not a fan of them. And her 5 cats make it over to my house and meow. Then I said I love living in the country

Mine commented once, then I told him the roosters dont come close to the noise of one of his calves crying for momma once a month, or the sound of a cow bellowing once a month due to weaning off the calves. He has 21 cows on 3 acres......built a huge barn across from my house and has a manure pile 25 feet tall and 100 ft long (did, I had to nudge him to get it spread as the flies and smell were a bit much, and I grew up on a working farm LOL)

Yes, I said 21 on 3 acres.....

Roosters can be just as big a problem in the country as in the city. Their crows carry miles, and they DO annoy people - a LOT.

They tend to crow at the crack of dawn, and to be honest, not everyone enjoys it, and not everyone has to get up at 5:30 AM. Mine even used to crow in the middle of the night.

I’m blessed with great neighbors!!! Thank GOD! My neighbor behind me has peacock's, so I listen to him "MOW!!!!" all day and he listen’s to my "Cock-a-doodle-doo!" all day and we both don't mind. The people across from me have goats and horses, and LOVE LOVE LOVE it when I bring them free eggs and miss their old chickens, and the fresh eggs they used to get. They bring me a bag full of egg cartons when they have it, and we go over and give them fresh eggs all the time. Love our neighbors.

I'm always amazed at people that live in the country and then whine about the "country" noises like roosters crowing.

Sounds like apartment life is just a lot more suited for some people.
