Oh my heart. Love big dogs! :love

don't have to bend to pet them

Agreed! And you can actually hug them LOL and no worrying about hurting them!!

I think I will always have bigger dogs haha

I do love a lot of the smaller breeds and want to try them eventually plus they are slightly easier to take places but the bigger ones are just so much fun and there’s something so much more soothing about hugging a big dog or burying your face and/or hands in their fur or having them come sit on your lap LOL

Well okay the tags you put on a license plate tag here is different and I have not been able to drive in like 7 years .. We use a good two cords of wood but we have the trash burner in the house .. I made a beef pot pie tonight boy it was comfort food even I had seconds View attachment 1902021
Looking forward to beef stew when it cools down outside.

Unless the dog squishes you!

:lau :gig :lau

That’s true!!

Not sure I’d want a Great Dane or huge 200 pound mastiff sitting on me. :lau

But Gator was around 140 and at times thought he was a lap dog :lau

I didn’t mind lol

Although thankfully he usually didn’t do that. Usually preferred you to sit on the floor or couch and him to lay his big goofy head in your lap :love

But even like Golden or Lab size is nice and manageable and won’t squish you lol

But I’m used to big dogs. :D

I love our Shepherd but don't want her on my lap. The Papillon is a perfect lap size.

Yeah, I don’t think I’d want a big dog on my lap constantly haha that’s what cats are for. :D

Or small dogs.

I do eventually want a small dog too and have several breeds in mind for those too if I ever get one, namely Havanese, Bichon, Pap, and Shih Tzu, or Boston or Rat terrier just cause they’re all adorable and definitely a nice lap size. And also small dogs are a lot easier to take places and some of them can still have attitude and be personable, which is nice. They’re not duds. I used to not like most small dogs, but I’ve come around haha but I still like the huggable nature of the big dogs ha

I also like having a bigger dog for the anxiety element of it. It sounds ridiculous but I have anxiety and sometimes hugging a dog or having one sit on my lap helps the anxiety. Some service dogs are actually trained to do that too. Deep pressure therapy (DPT). They lay down on your legs or chest and somehow the pressure and weight as well as also I think the touch/physical contact helps calm the anxiety, ground the person, etc. now obviously I don’t need a service dog or anything like that but I do believe and have found that that does help me as weird as it sounds haha

But also another big thing for me is I think I would feel safer with a big dog when sleeping and walking alone, especially at night, as well as on hikes. I don’t currently really have an issue sleeping, no problems there, but I think I would sleep even better with a dog there. And I am constantly going off by myself and love hiking (though I don’t do it very much if at all lately :hide ) so having a bigger and/or protective dog would help.

Nothing against little dogs and I’m sure even a little dog could do DBT (though they do kind of have to weigh at least a little bit lol) or would help me sleep better, even just the companionship is nice, and I know plenty of little dogs who are protective, but if somebody ever attempted anything, a little dog isn’t exactly gonna be much help in the way of defense. :lau :hide

I guess that’s a good reason to get both though.... little dog for the lap companion, big dog for the protection/hugging. :D :lau

How old is she? Is she full bloodhound? Sorry for all the questions :lau

She'll be 2 in October. Yes, she's full bloodhound, although sometimes I swear she's got some kind of shepherd in her since she loves to chase the goats and get them inside the goat haus at night. I attribute that to us getting her at 8 weeks old and me taking her on my chores (which include rounding up the goats) nightly. I am not able to do the chores alone, clearly I need bloodhound help each night.

We had no intentions of getting a dog, let alone a giant bloodhound. However, I "loaned" my godmother some money (I had zero expectation of getting it back) and she bred her dogs and wanted to give us a puppy. I made the mistake of telling BF about it, who wanted the puppy very badly. He left the decision up to me and when I said no, he said that was the wrong decision. We got her the day after Christmas. She was covered in fleas and had 2 burn marks on her ears from a "natural" flea treatment. She weighed 12 lbs and was a good cuddler, but snored a lot. She now weighs over 100 and still snores. And farts. Loudly (each time she sits down). And stinkily.
