The Old Folks Home

Well that too....

But I meant fancy table manners, and fancy stuff like holding chairs and doors and such, and how to talk "educated" and stocks and syllibub and proper etiquette and proper letter writing etc.

The era of business cards and how to present them etc.

I just gave my China, that I got from my mom, that she had bought for her mom...to my daughter. Catch that? It is so pretty. I don't use it, may as well have it go to her. Promised it to her years ago..she got half a couple of years ago..so many pieces .you name it, it was there. She got the rest the first part of the year. The china cabinet is downstairs. Gave that to our daughter in law. Daughter that got the china, already has a China Cabinet.

My mom died without ever using her china. She would always say 'I'll get it out when and only when the president comes to dinner'. So sad. It's made 4 moves with only one cup getting broken. I was able to find a replacement on Ebay and yes, once a year I get it out and use it and no, the president has yet to show up for dinner. I have no idea who I will pass it on to.

I'll try to get caught up at some point. Today was the monthly meeting of our HAM club..

Something happened there today and I'm hoping I can get y'all's opinion of if what happened would make you a bit uncomfortable. The club is public, multi county, not held in a church but in a county training center. Today the club president asked another person to lead the group in an opening prayer. I am a person of faith, safe to say that most there are.But my faith is a private thing that I choose to show in charitable acts towards others.

There is a small group in the club that is of a faith that isn't of my own choosing and this is the group that is doing this. Others have confided that they are uncomfortable by the 'opening of the meeting with a prayer'. It might be considered a nice touch but what if not everyone is Christian? What if there is a Hebrew there? Is there a time and place for such things? People have told me that they wish they wouldn't do that and that in deed, there is a time and place, like the beginning of a meal, etc for prayer but not at the beginning of a public meeting.

What do you think?

They can have a prayer after the meeting for those that wish to. I think religion is a private matter too.
