The Old Folks Home

Not sure if that one had a air vent blow out thingy. Or how ancient it might have been.
I'm pretty sure our four qt and my MIL's old big canner is older than 30yrs, both prob 1970s ish they do have the air vent blow out thingy that has to build pressure to seal, our new big canner is built the same way. Now when you say the newer ones are designed to fail at the seal do you mean the main seal? Or the little air vent thingy?
I know there is certain things your not supposed to cook in them cause they can foam up or something and plug the vents, or maybe it was expand, like beans or rice.
There is a place at the seal that will fail if the pressure gets too high so that the top will not blow up. The new ones are very safe. They will not open when under pressure too.

I have been using pressure cookers for 15 years and have never had an issue

Not sure if I have arthritis but dang my thumbs hurt, right where the joint connects to the hand not a constant pain but extreme if I move them just right. Have good health ins and think I should get it checked out just in case it's something fixable but do not look forward to it. Just deal with it. Probably from my days cutting bluestone, know I was close to carpal tunnel, wake up middle of the night hands in claws numb. When I was young 20s, hrs many hrs every day death gripping wooden handles on stone hammers and gripping the heavy stone, both covered in wet mud so death grip.
Do get it looked but is sounds more like either a spur on a Ligament issue.

Not sure why my hands go numb-doesn't happen for days and then back, bad as ever.
Everyone sez carpal tunnel. I used to brush show dogs dry from soaking wet while the dryer was on them. So I could see my right hand going bad. But my left hand never does much of anything but pass bags over to my right, when I'm not looking.

I've mentioned bluestone quary here many times, you all prob don't have a clue what it is, I , if I was still doing it seventh generation on my mom's side, my dad was a logger but learned it from my grandfather on mom's side and he's still 'woodchucking it'
I miss it, grew up with it , just a little kid in the quarry every day I wasn't in school, out of high school worked in a few quarries for other people, eventually went back to my dad and then became partners 50/50 for a few yrs and then struck out with a friend partners for a couple yrs, then one yr on my own, made $$$. Been 16yrs since I swang a hammer, really miss it, DW , looks like she may have a good job now with health ins, I might just be able to get back into it and teach our boy how it's done he'll be a eighth generation.
Blah blah blah, in case your wondering what it is I recently saw a post of iron FB, Maine college of art did a vid with the guy that used to dynamite blast our quarries yrs ago, cracked me up seeing him on it. I'll never forget prob 20+ yrs ago I was around 20, they, my dad and him were drilling four foot holes eighty of them with a hammer drill, I drilled maybe two, holy carp like instant pain, hands felt like worst arthritis, stone chips flying allover, I sucked at it (I was way hungover also, young days) they sent me for coffee and donuts , that Dave in the vid, much younger back then was drilling like it was easy leg thrown up over the handle , said I was about worthless , send him for coffee and donuts :lau
I was ok with it, drilling really sucked...

I was thinking maybe same thing . Hoping it's something fixable just keep putting it off. No swelling or stiffness just extreme pain when moved certain ways. I blame it on DW , she yrs ago liked twisting my thumbs all the time ( I prob deserved it, lol , no comment on why (family friendly site here), she'd get me good though twisting them) she blames it on the quarry work.

Really interesting story I watched it all never knew of it. They fixed my dominate hand my left killed it at dog shows hand stripping Diva knows yes wake you in the middle of night wear braces still woke me I was fortunate new way did not backfire on me think the old way is gone now my right was not near as bad now they say it has repaired itself works for something on my is good

Great story!

I do believe it takes a bit of time for that type of work to be easy though
