The Old Folks Home

I saw a squirrel fit through that size opening yesterday! It amazed me! Just ran right through the fence into another yard. I walked up to the fence and couldn’t believe he fit through such a small opening. I know they’ve fit through my chain link kennel run before but these spaces on the welded wire looked soooo small. It was amazing it fit through there.

Interesting that the articles on opossums didn't mention their beneficial work toward combating chicken math ;) Sorry you lost your Tolbunts to one of these creatures Cap.

:lau :gig :lau

Thankfully I’ve never even seen one here!

The hawks, foxes, and raccoons contribute far more to that. The coyotes don’t seem interested whatsoever.

One of the things the article I read said was that they will eat their weight in ticks. I hate ticks.....still don't like possums. When I was a city dweller I heard the dogs raising cain at the fence. Went out to find a pretty good sized possum up against the fence pulling the I'm Dead act. Rounded up the dogs, went back out, possum was still there, still belly up. I nudged it with my toe and told it I wasn't easily fooled. I KNEW it was alive. It hissed at me. That was all it took. I lifted the bottom edge of the chain link fence and punted it out into the alley. That was the last time I saw it and it never came back. Lots easier out in the country where a .22 speaks volumes.

Did you read the part where they have no control over the timing and length of they "play dead" thing? Stress trigger like fainting goats.

That’s very interesting!! I never knew that till I read that. I always thought it was on purpose.

The eating ticks thing is definitely a benefit.
