The Old Folks Home

I'm glad my roosters are all nice at the moment. I have one that will give me a peck, halfheartedly, if I pull him out of his favorite roost spot which is a nesting box but I just 'peck' him back and he backs off.

We had similar incidents here and I did back in IL before DH and I met. Shame that people have to put up with that nonsense. Here one night we had a pickup truck stop on the bridge over the creek at the base of the hill that leads up to our house and shine a spotlight right in our bedroom window at 1 AM. It woke us up and DH laid in bed for a moment watching them. They were probably spotlighting to poach deer but they kept shining that darned flood light right in our windows. DH finally got enough of it, grabbed the 'home protection' and went outside, positioning himself on the hill so they would see him when they flashed the spot light on our yard. Sure enough, they saw his silhouette and the next thing we heard was their tires spinning gravel as they took off at warp speed.

Like I said, ridiculous what people do to irritate you and what you have to do to protect yourself.

Back in IL when I was still quite young and living at home with my family, my dad had just been discharged from the hospital after having major surgery. A car pulled into our driveway and we saw two young men get out and start for the house. It was about 2AM. One of them started yelling 'HELP' and staggered and fell and began to vomit. I got on the phone and called 911. They told us not to answer the doors, make sure everything was locked and stay on the phone with them just in case. I did, sure enough, the sheriff showed up in record time, toted the young men off along with the car.

Turned out the boys were sons of one of the Pekin Police officers who were out drinking and whatever with their buddies.....naturally nothing was ever done about it. Frustrating. They could have hit and killed or maimed somebody but it's not what you know but who you know that counts.

We have not had things like that here just tired of no resolution to the problems created at Dish changing the plan we had to make some channels we use all the time disappear
gave them several warnings now cancelling service

Good for you, Penny. We did that with Direct two years ago. No problems with them, just didn't watch enough channels every day to justify paying them 68 $ every month for the service. We went to antenna TV where we get 7 local stations out of Kirksville and Ottumwa IA. We fill in with Prime Movies and TV. Lots cheaper and we can watch what we like.

A virus that has hit around 50 old folks, and they don't r expectct many of them to make it.
 How do they explain THAT to the relatives????

I'm not keen on watching scary movies even with other people around. So I watch them in broad daylight and sometimes have to sleep with the light on.
I just don't watch them at all :D

leaking nuclear plant,
Easy for you to say now that Vermont Yankee has been closed ;) Of course it closed before you moved to VT.

DH has almost all of his machines prepared
I put in the "driveway" markers today. Waited a bit too long last year and had to get through a somewhat frozen crust.

Yeah, they hauled him to jail.
Where he will be released from just as fast. Our weekly county paper lists county residents arrested for DUI, etc. It is amazing how many people are hauled in for DUI # 2, 3, 4, driving with license suspended, license criminally suspended, permanently suspended 4th time in one instance.

:th

Haven't done that yet.... thinking it might be a bit tough to get them in.

The only thing I have wanted, but we don't have yet, is a hand pump for the well. I do need to replenish some of our food. I had gone through all the shelves, organized, and tossed all the outdated stuff, moved the stuff that will expire this year to the front. With fixing the vehicles, and a few other expenses, I have added some things back in, but have not fully restocked. I'll get to it.

I want a hand pump too!

We can power our pump with a generator but in a long-term situation we would be digging in the several springs up the hill. I have purification for water from the stream.

I have stocked up on first aid stuff, too, included bandages, antibiotic cream, and huge containers of alcohol gel. Other stuff, too. I need to work on food staples that will last in storage.
