The Old Folks Home

Micro the bus dispatcher won't let me go to the PO because "no one else wants to go." But my brother said there is a post office on the campus grounds where he works. I bagged it up and addressed and ready to go.

I am not sure it's old age causing the sticker shock. Even younger adults than us experience it. The "kids" are used to it, because they've never known prices to be much lower. I've said for a long time that, because of so many people in the word, and goods becoming a more "disposable", we have been running a bit short on raw materials for awhile now. Things have gotten to where they are thinner, flimsier, lighter weight, which require less resources. You would think that would drop the price, but as there are less resources, the price goes up. So many things could be built to last far longer, conserving money, and resources. The problem with that is, the manufacturers, and retailers would not make as much money, if consumers didn't have to replace, or buy new, more often.

Anytime anyone would mention the good ol days, my grandmother would speak up, saying that she didn't miss them, and was very glad for modern conveniences. From the stories she told, things like riding in the wagon, it seemed like a great childhood. From an adult perspective, having to be the one to hitch up the mule to the wagon, or hitch the mules, and plow the fields, taking over a day to boil, wash, and get laundry dry, hauling wood for the stove, etc. it was a LOT of work getting things done.

Maybe Kohls would send emails of sales etc. if you inquire. I believe they still give senior discounts 15% off on Wednesdays. Not great - our bus goes there on Mondays. I did order something from them once and never again. It took nearly 3 weeks to get it.

Plus for quite awhile Kohls was mailing out $ 10. gift cards to the senior ladies. But stopped that soon for the others. I guess they weren't spending them. I do, and I continue to get the cards around holiday shopping. Thing is they now have so many things YOU ARE NOT allowed to use them on. There is next to nothing left to buy.

Used to get "toys for tots," with the gift cards. NOW they won't allow it.
