Nope. Hope he is alright.

So a question. How hard are turkey poults to raise? With the prices I've seen on turkeys this year and all the carp they are shooting into them to make them bigger and better, I'm seriously considering getting a few next year and raising them for freezer camp.

I figure if I get three, I can get the girls next door to butcher for me and give them one for their time and trouble.....if they aren't that hard to raise, that is.

The hardest part about raising turkeys is getting the eggs to hatch. I have heard people say that turkeys are hard to raise. But I raise mine with chicks for the first few weeks. I think they watch the chicks eat and drink, so it helps them figure it out. My turkey hens only raised one of the three they hatched. But they were new moms.

We bought Turkey butter ball at walmart this month it was like 75 cents a lb told BF they will raise the price for the holiday get it now why so cheap

I was in Hyvee this past week. They had a sale on turkeys but they had few left and the ones they had were 18$ up. I think they were being sold at 1.39 a pound. They were offering them as buy a ham and get a turkey free. The hams were 26$ and we don't eat ham.

Since I'm the only person who eats turkey here, I don't need that large of a bird. I usually try to find one that weighs about 8-10 pounds then I quarter it and bake it as the mood for turkey hits me.

I like to buy frozen turkey breasts because they are small and work better for a small Family

That's what I wound up doing. They had one lone turkey breast in the bin. I grabbed it before somebody else got to it first.

Tomorrow is opening day to hunting season/deer. Yep, we are going out. I was talking to the neighbors next door today and they said that they are seeing a lot of deer on our property back in the timber on our fence line where there is a game trail. She said that there was also a wounded buck wandering around as her husband was bow hunting and had a bad shot. I have no desire to bow hunt due to the higher risks of a deer only being wounded and escaping. My choice is a 30-30 rifle. If I'm going to end an animal's life, I want it to be clean and quick for them whether it's a deer or a chicken.
