The Old Folks Home

But we are! I'm one of the younger boomers, and I'm 66. I think the boom was over a couple of years after I was born (1953). I would certainly not like to be considered "elderly," although I confess to feeling that way some days. Like after PT today, ouch!
I am 64 and am shocked at what I see in the mirror. I think my brain still thinks I am 40 and taking on the world... sigh.

I usually ignore what I see in the mirror, I KNOW what I really look like and it is much younger and sexier and alive than any mirror image. I could dye my white hair but WHY?

Blonds don't mind having a wide band of black hair down the middle of their coiffures. Heck even the boyfriends are so befuddled they think their girlfriends are truly blond. HA! Blind sighted is as Blind sighted does.

I recall an episode of Mash where they wanted to know if Hot Lips was a real blond. They waited for her to be in the outdoor shower and then knocked all the temporary sides down to get a good look. She was beyond furious.

I used to dye my hair because I started getting gray hair when I was 18. That wasn't going to float. Last year I decided to go back to my natural hair color. It took a few trips to the hair salon to get the dye off but now my hair is naturally silver. I couldn't be happier. I've earned it and I think it looks nicer than the dye colors ever did.

I was pulling out the gray hairs when I started getting them in high school - then noticed I was getting bare spots. Decided gray hair was better than none. But now it's white and it goes with anything I wear, so I don't care. It's below my shoulders now - used to keep it very short. Probably let it grow as long as it wants till the warmer weather comes back.

Boomers go to 1964. Something like 10,00 of them are retiring each day.

What I wonder is when there are a lot more boomers than younger generations if the boomers will get more respect.

We do have an odd culture where youth is worshiped in the US

Last time I dyed the hair blew it one of national hair places I looked like Lucille ball hair
started black with red highlights lost some of the hard black with Cancer came back dull black but went white like Grandma then Ma... still have some dark hiding in the back
headed to get groceys

I kind of doubt it. I find the youth of today have a really hard time empathizing outside of their own little tunnel-visioned orbit.
What I find especially frustrating, though, is when shopping the older person is usually the last one to get service and -- in my case -- is often ignored. Some days I truly wonder if I'm invisible. [Answer: Hardly. I'm a rather large short person.] Retail's loss on that one. It's no wonder on-line shopping is taking over.
