The Old Folks Home

4 inches of snow on top of an inch of ice and an additional two inches of snow.

4 inches of wet...soggy snow with my nets all on the ground under it....
Oh no! Snow on ice is bad. By nets on the ground, you mean nets that should be overhead?

Oh, yeah......Don't do too much to protect the birds from our ever present birds of prey when the chickens are walking on top of them.....with them on the ground although I've caught a bantam or two walking around on top of them when they are stretched as they were intended to be over their pointy little heads.

Or better yet, the day I went out and found one of my young Fayoumi pullets running around on top of the net like a trapeze artist walking around on a safety net and when I asked her what she thought she was doing, she ran straight to the hole they had made by flying up and hanging on it, dove through and then had the gall to stand there and give me this guileless look like she was saying 'me? outside the run? why NO mom, I wouldn't THINK of doing such a dangerous thing!'

Why do they have suicidal tendencies?

Silly birds huh ... putting their own lives in danger ... The speckled from the grow out coop
are back out this morning stopped putting food in their feeder so they go in the main coop
eventually for food.. the blue cochin do not seem to want to venture out

Sorry to laugh, but that was a funny picture. :lau Now I'm hoping we wont have a big snow this year because all I have to protect my chickens from our birds of prey is a net too. It isn't one the chickens can punch a hole in, but I still don't want it falling down on them. Yikes.

:gig Chickens are very silly!

I have odd shaped runs so for the large areas I have heavy duty deer net. It seldom tears but it will break out at the hooks if enough weight gets on it. All I'll have to do is restretch it once it thaws out.

I also have some tied netting which I love but because of the weird shape of my run I have to piece them together. What I think gave way mostly was some net that was on it's last legs. Bought the CARP company direct from China and trust me it was no bargain. It's slated to be replaced this spring but I don't think it's going to make it that long.

Sometimes it's more about keeping the little idiots in more than keeping the hawks and owls out.

Making chicken wings and chicken fried rice for dinner :gig :ya
Did you have a couple of bad actors in the coop today Penny? ;)

doing pretty well.
I won't quote the entire post but
:wee :yesss:

The book I ordered, arrived yesterday. Monday, she will be going on campus to check out the Success Center.

I still don't understand how their website can claim they use the version 6 tests, since Jan. of last year, but are actually still using the version 5, obsolete, tests.
And watch, the next time she takes the test it will be Version 6 :th
Good you happened to find the neighbor with her knowledge!

I too got very few cavities. My teeth were strong, and in good shape.
That can depend on the person and which parent they get their dental genes from ;)
My younger sister is 15 months younger than me. She had about 8 cavities in her baby teeth, plenty of them in her permanent teeth. Crowns, bridges etc. Mon's teeth were not great either. On the other hand Dad's teeth are still good at 91, I think he has maybe 2 fillings. I have 4 and haven't had one since I was in my mid teens. Older sister has good teeth as well.

Wow had not thought of Mercurochrome in ages or the awful applying of Vic's to chest up nostrils :rant
Yeah! Why did she have to dredge up those bad memories of Vic's up the nose?????

We've got two and working on getting a third one later this year, although the logistics of going from two to three dogs is hugely different than going from one to two.

(Shameless plug)
You're very fortunate to have Operation Greyhound nearby to you (El Cajon) as they're an excellent group at rehoming ex-racers. (They get their dogs from the Caliente Racetrack.) I got my first grey from them (a puppy, no less) and would continue getting dogs from there if it weren't a two-day trek out and then back for me. Bruna and Bob are lovely and caring folks and the greyhound community they've created is exemplary with walks and annual picnics.
Thats who I got mine from. when it was run by an Aussie trainer... retired from the track.

My dog had a crypt orchid so neutering was as expensive as a spay. even more so because they cant have barbituates.

There were at least two organizations that I knew of here in El Cajon... One was very draconian with regard to who they would allow to have a greyhound. I may not opt to do it again because of that vetting period. Home inspection Lifestyle chriteria.... interviews with your vet....

it would break my heart to be disallowed
