The Old Folks Home

We saw something weird as far as chains and studded tires are concerned. The 4wd that our mail carrier drives had chains on the right side of the car but not the left.....hmmmmm.....

As for the vaccines. Here, the Amish NEVER vaccinate anything as far as we can tell. I remember talking to our Amish neighbor one day on a Sunday and commented about 'how was church today?' to them. They hadn't gone. There was a Whooping cough outbreak in the community and they were trying to keep the kids and new baby away from it. Ye Gads! was all I could think. I also wondered what other outbreaks they had in the community that we never hear about.

I think I mentioned once about being in one of the general stores and seeing a poster by the door warning people about the evils of vaccines, saying right out in print..Do You Really Want Them To Inject Puss and Bacteria into your Body?

The misinformation out there is terrifying. Also terrifying is that they shun doctors and rely largely on homeopathic medicine.

The big question I have is, does their lack of reliance on modern medicine make them more resistant to the common everyday ailments the rest of civilization gets, or does it make them a breeding ground for something really bad to get into and decimate their communities?

I'd like to see statistics for the number of Amish who suffer from diseases that we commonly immunize for and they do not. May have to look it up....

We asked at wally and at rite aide they said nope funny but I went through most of life
I was never vaccinated for Diphtheria, Polio, Typhus until I was being sent to other countries to retrieve suitable or new blood bring unrelated dogs to America.. My first vaccine for Tetanus I was like 12, then 24 , 36 I think was the last
Go get the tetanus vaccine! You are around places and areas that could have it

The Amish have a lit to deal with health wise. Closed in community and all

It's doubtful that there is a database that has collected information on illnesses in the Amish communities. It would be highly unreliable, since it's doctors, and hospitals that report the information, and the Amish shun doctors. For every 1 case of something that a doctor was used, and the information reported, there could be 3 - 20 people that did not seek any medical attention.

BTW I believe the tetanus shots are given at 8-10 years intervels. I'll have to check. I know my son is way over due for it. Without me tricking him into going he never will. I bet his GF could persuade him.
Yep, every 10 years.

I dont get new vaccines.... those worry me.

I however like tried and true vaccines. Tetanus is a great vaccine, nice and old, very few side effects, and protects from an easy to get and truly nasty disease.
