Yes! My DW failed at the roll and is still suffering the consequences of Smacking onto the pavement during her motorcycle accident. She was not taught how to rollSaw the Porterville Library news on FB from a friend. So sad! Small towns are a tight community, so losses are personally felt. My condolences! HUGS!

re: Drop and roll
When I taught riding lessons, one of the first things instructed to the kids was how to fall off a horse. Unscheduled dismounts and accompanying injuries happen all too frequently.
The shoulder roll was particularly helpful when out on Mt. Diablo mountain the horse I was on panicked at some deeer, and did a bull-necked dead run back to the barn. There were grassy fields along the trail before a rocky ledge trail and I knew I had to get off before hitting the granite. One of those situations where mentally you're riding faster than the horse, so you can think and plan. Anyway, I peeled off to the side and did a lovely roll and skid. Heard a scream. It wasn't me but a hiker further up the trail who saw it all unfold. I stood up, waved, and started jogging back to the barn. (Always wear clothes you'll be comfortable walking home in!) I was met partway by the barn crew in an ATV that saw my saddled horse dash into her stall. The horse had a minor scratch; I had grass stains and a sore shoulder. The maneuver probably saved many broken bones, if not my life.

She had two operations to put her wrist together and found out later that her pelvis was cracked and not diagnosed. She also is a candidate for knee replacement from the damage to her knee. Pretty much the entire left side had broken bones and hematoma.
