Agreed but the free healthcare is better than the no health care many people get in the USA.
And yes there is NO free lunch, everything has to be paid for somehow so they do it with VAT or other taxes. And of course it hits the poor harder than the better off just like any consumption tax in the USA.

Ok. lol I'll try to remember.

Can't say I blame them. A lot of businesses have taken a huge hit with all the restrictions, some have gone belly up because they simply couldn't hold their breath that long (some expenses don't go away just because the customers do). Even the businesses that weren't closed, like the grocery stores, are doing extra cleaning and have put up those plastic shields and added various stickers and signs; during the busiest hours, the ones around here even have an extra employee on hand whose only job is to sanitize carts. Those things are extra expenses on businesses that historically don't make big profits. Passing the pain on to the customer may not be popular, but I think most people will understand it. :idunno

Life expectancy is not an accurate indicator of health care effectiveness. There are a LOT of other factors. Start with diet. One of the things I applaud about England, is that they banned what was/is termed as Frankenfood. The genetically modified foods, which are grown there for export to the US, are not allowed to be sold, and consumed there. Some of the commercial fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals allowed here, are banned there as well. Those differences make a huge impact on longevity, regardless of the quality of healthcare.

Mainstream meat sources, are fed with GMO feeds, and other highly questionable things, so the meat is filling, but the nutritional value, is not optimized. In addition to that, since beef is sold by the pound, when cattle arrive at the stockyards, they are injected with a slow release "pill" that contains a high amount of estrogen. The same way estrogen produces bodily changes in pregnancy, causing increased fat, and weight, this happens to the cattle. This may be good for those selling beef, but it is NOT good for the consumer. Don't even get me started on fast foods. Let's face it, the American diet, which once was enviable, is now seriously lacking. This makes a serious impact on longevity, regardless of healthcare. The good news is, there is more awareness now. More and more we're seeing organic, and/or Non GMO on some of the foods.

Certain industries here, having money, and power, have gotten away with far more ecological damage, mostly to water sources, than they should have. A few movies to watch, Lois Gibbs and the Love Canal, Erin Brockovich, and Dark Waters. While the movies tend to focus on specific areas, where the damage is discovered, it's usually much more widespread, and NOT just limited to the areas the movies focus on. These things affect enough areas of our population that it noticeably impacts our longevity stats, as well.

As I said, life expectancy is not an accurate indicator of health care effectiveness.

The buckets will stay clean for a good while. They are not plastic, but rubberized, and black. In addition, they are easy to clean, since nothing really sticks. The gallon type jar waterers, with the screw on bottoms, however, will all need scrubbing in about a week, due to algae. The feeders get it as needed, and don't really require it too often, as long as the feed stays dry, and bug free.

In a few weeks, the younger chickens, should be big enough for me to replace the jar waterers, with buckets.

Dh came in from work, complaining about how much he can see that I have left undone. I essentially told him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. I do a lot of work, but for now, have a lot of extra things to do, and I'm only one person. Is anyone else around here picking up the slack? No. Like I explained, it won't be long that things will be back on an even keel, and demands on my time will be back to normal. At that time, I will catch up on all the things that fell by the wayside. I fed him, and he went to bed.

that is nonsense. Why do you think the people of Britain love the NHS as they do? Did you know that every Thurs at 8pm from end of March to end of May people came out of their homes to clap for carers? Google it.

I think someone has been pulling your leg. Let's take life expectancy as evidence of healthcare effectiveness; on the current tables, UK is 29th and US is 46th, https://www.worldometers.info/demographics/life-expectancy/
It seems that the information that makes NHS look slow comes from decades ago when the program started. A lot of big programs can take some time to hit their stride
