The Old Folks Home

For the record, we do have free healthcare here, for low income families. It's called Medicaid.
It is also state, not federally, run and coverage eligibility varies substantially by state. I hadn't thought to see if DD1 is eligible for Medicaid. Probably not since she is a dependant (even though she is now 27 and aged out of DW's work insurance). If we had universal health care there would be no issue of coverage.

Went to Hannaford today to pick up her prescription, they hadn't filled it since they had no insurance info and didn't know if she would want it for $271). So I showed her the GoodRx coupon code and went to get some stuff. Came back and paid not for the prescription amount but the amount they had on hand :he They've had this prescription since mid last week. I have no idea when they get deliveries or how many other people are getting it such that they ran out. Also got another robocall from Walgreen's, I guess they didn't cancel it when I called a few days ago and told them I was going to get it at Hannaford.

And with regard to "timely medical appointments". DD2 had some ear infections her last semester in college (actually they've been a lifelong thing). She went to an ENT there (WI) who said she should have surgery ASAP but if they did it there (March) the follow up would be after she had graduated and come home. So an appointment was made for an ENT here. OCTOBER was the first available appointment. Thus I do not want to hear about how slow medical care is in countries that have universal health care and how great it is here because here isn't all that great.

what figures in to the outlandish prices of drugs are the advertising costs that go into every drug made.
I'm sure there are hundreds of millions if not billions spent on advertising which is then added to the cost to the consumer. Not just the wine and dine to the doctors but all the TV ads.

Ya'll need to watch out for this charge on your receipts!
Businesses that have been closed are charging this Covid fee!
Here is a link to the news report.
Haven't seen that here.

Can't say I blame them. A lot of businesses have taken a huge hit with all the restrictions, some have gone belly up because they simply couldn't hold their breath that long (some expenses don't go away just because the customers do). Even the businesses that weren't closed, like the grocery stores, are doing extra cleaning and have put up those plastic shields and added various stickers and signs; during the busiest hours, the ones around here even have an extra employee on hand whose only job is to sanitize carts. Those things are extra expenses on businesses that historically don't make big profits. Passing the pain on to the customer may not be popular, but I think most people will understand it. :idunno
Exactly!! I don’t really think it’s a big deal. I’d rather pay a little more than have them go out of business or whatever. I know a lot of people don’t feel the same way or maybe can’t afford it or whatever but I know of a couple of music venues that literally just closed down permanently because of this Covid thing, which I think is really sad, so I’d rather support the small businesses than have any more go out of business. If it was a huge company/chain or something like a pet store or Chili’s or something then I think maybe I might have more of an issue with it since they make a lot as is, but for small businesses I don’t think an extra dollar or two is that bad. The music venue that closed down here has been a venue for forever.

I have to admit that since Covid-19, there have been a lot of changes in things here regarding medical care, and treatment. Here, quite a few of the doctors are even doing virtual visits. When they shut down all but emergency procedures at most hospitals, and implememnted the strict guidelines for an office visit, it created a huge back up in a lot of the doctor's schedules. It is going to take some time to get things back on track.
