So riddle me this...

Plague of varmints in my veggie compound and lots of mouse burrows in the raised beds, so I set the Squirrelinator and six assorted Victor snap mousetraps. Two of the mousetraps were semi-hidden (in raised beds) and the rest were placed in mouse run areas.

This morning I came outside and -- yay! -- a pack rat in the big trap, two mice in the hidden traps, and the rest of the traps were GONE. Not a trace of the four anywhere.

Did something covet the peanut butter, snap the traps and took off with them? Did I get mice in the traps and something came along after and took off with them? Is someone stealing mousetraps?

Any ideas? 🤔

Traps are supposed to be attached with wire to a stake or etc. Rats will head off with them.

Ron‘s right. Something larger than a mouse has a mouse trap on it‘s snout, foot, tail and carried them off.
Sometimes you will find them away from the area with blood, fur or etc. on them too!

Tricky things for sure

More Pack Rats, IMHO @Peep_Show. Something big enough to haul off the traps.

Stormy start to the day here. Sick kitty is doing better. Thank goodness. Chicks are growing like weeds. Part of the garden is doing great the rest...neh. My squash bed has turned into a jungle. Some of the runners are heading into the chicken run. The chickens are having fun with the leaves.

Other than that, same old same old. Stay well, all!

My poor garden needs watering badly, maybe I can get to it tomorrow.

We used to have a pretty big population of fox around here. Pretty sure my Jersey neighbor that free ranges their chickens has eliminated them...good but.. Now I have a abundance of rabbits in our garden. Nice having rabbits around again but pretty sure I'd rather deal with a occasional chicken loss to a fox 😆.
Small rodents, chipmunks mostly have been disastrous for our garden.
Paiute deadfall trap has been my go to trap for them. Pretty sure will work for any small rodent including rats and mice depends on how you make them.
I'm over 40 chipmunks this yr..
Hope there is a end to them someday
Not sure if you seen my vid so here again

turned into a jungle
I can sympathize - that's happened to a lot of my garden since the rain returned; spent yesterday dashing in and out between the showers to cut back, starting with the paths. Everything looks wonderfully green, but boy, does it grow fast after being held in check for a couple of months!
