The Old Folks Home

Rodents... ack. We've used the wooden snap traps for mice, but the pack rats kept stealing them. So started trapping the pack rats in the Squirrelinator and then used green tunnel live traps for mice (harder to steal) and also the black snap traps (which, IMHO, are superior although a tad more expensive). Don't really like the live traps for mice because you have to clean after each use, plus figure out what you're going to do with the mice...but they seem to have a higher catch rate than any of the snap traps.

Once upon a time I did use a sticky trap to catch a mouse that was under the dishwasher. Nearly forgot it was there -- almost stepped on it and the hapless mouse. But now we have inquisitive dogs in the house that might get themselves stuck and -- luckily -- the ingress for the mice was discovered and fixed.

That squirrelinator sounds neat!! Might have to get one for the squirrel that’s been raiding my chick’s feeder!! What do you do with them after you catch them?

Mini electric chairs, you just strap them in. :lau
Oh Cap, sometimes you make me want to drive to So Viginny just so I can hug you! :hugs Thanks for the laugh.

Although I think if I tried to strap in a Missouri field mouse I might wind up strapped in. Them suckers are BIG!

I had an eastern wood rat in my shed.. He/she kept stealing nuts, bolts, paint sticks and paint rollers.. Ate two of my fishing nets too along with lawn chair covers. I tried rat bait, but it didn't work.. Next was a large rat trap with peanut butter on a ritz cracker... Whack! no more rat.

I was using Tom Cat. It was killing the mice....slowly. As they were slowly dying they were still breeding like, well, mice and rats.

I switched back to Ramik. I found three dead mice yesterday outside the coop door and the smell of dead mice has been hanging around the coop and runs for about a week now and as I'm not finding any more bodies about, they must be dying in their burrows.

The bait I took out for the rat belonging to the tunnels I found yesterday was untouched so maybe the stench was coming from that source also.

Well, either use the accessory to the Squirrelinator OR -- my preference -- I take them to our local raptor rescue. Saves her from having to buy rodents and she can use the money for vet expenses and other necessities. (Reuse, repurpose, recycle those crits!)

And, because she does release her charges once rehabilitated, most folks where I live do not use poisoned baits. We need our raptors and owls to take care of the rodents, and not be done in by them.) (And we need the coyotes and bobcats, too, for the larger ones.)
