The Old Folks Home

I got chased out of one of the heritage breeds threads a long time ago. I had not been talked to like I was that stupid in a long time. I don't need that.

Must be compensating for something. My birds are better than your birds?

Off to go answer the call of the treadmill. April will be here before I know it.

Sometimes it feels a lot like when you're the new kid and you mistakenly sit at the "cool" table.

Sadly, some of them really do have valuable information to impart, but they manage to be so offensive in the process that those who could learn from them often shut down and leave before they hear it.

I do think that dedicating yourself to breeding true heritage breeds can be a noble cause but if it comes to being snarky at other people about your "purebreds", then it might be time to remember they are only chickens. No one outside the world of chickens is going to care if you raise blue ribbon striped egg layers. ;) It is pretty much the same no matter what you are talking about, dogs, horses, model airplanes. You get out of that niche and no one knows your name. Perspective can be a wonderful thing and I like having chickens just enough to like my barnyard mutts. ;)

I've been called mean and a bully on other threads here. All I did was answer a person's questions as honestly as I knew how. It apparently offended their sensibilities or conflicted with what they wanted to hear. Others on the same threads couldn't see what I said that was offensive. I figure, if you don't want a real answer, don't ask the question.
I've since been able to decipher and ferret out the threads where the person wasn't able to handle the truth and I leave them alone.

Walt still pops in as needed -- to answer tough questions. Having a novice ask questions and post asking for info would have thrilled BOb. ANother opportunity to turn another person onto the heritage lines.

I'm making the leap this year. Buckeyes-- I'm on the list but that might be this year, or maybe next. And waiting to get hatching eggs from a different flock and a different breeed. Going for meat breeds, as they all lay more eggs than I can use. lol

Canoe - tone is difficult over the internet. We've all been guilty at one time or another of coming across completely different than we meant it.

What I was talking about was literally having my IQ called into question and told to come back when I knew something.

There's a huge difference.

I am on a thread that is about processing support for those that have trouble processing chickens.

We sometimes get a post or two from Vegans. Honestly, There is not a nice way to dispatch a chicken if you are opposed to eating meat.

We really did appreciate your great advice on the NYD hatch a long thread. A lot of them had much better hatch rates because of the great posts from you there.

Yes, tone does not help there!

A problem on the heritage threads is that they do not like emoticons, which can help with tone!

Huge.

I imagine that would be called mean.
No one knows what you or I know in the aggregate. We may very well be Mensas in relation to the criticizer.
