The Old Folks Home

I drink caffeine-free diet Coke. No, it doesn't taste like brown water. I only have one glass of it a day IF I am having something that makes me real thirsty -like spaghetti with meat sauce. I end up having that 3 times a week till I've finished the sauce.

I am the ice cream lover(real ice cream not Blue Bunny) which is labeled as a frozen dessert.
No wonder it is so blah!! My sister is lactose intolerance and she is able to eat it. I don't eat much ice cream now since the price has really gone up. The old oven doesn't work so no cookie , cupcake , etc baking. Just as well because I'm the only one here that would eat it.

When I drink milk (skim milk) once in awhile it's just with Ovaltine Chocolate Malt powder in it. Does NOT taste like a chocolate malt. Malteds were my favorites way back when. Walgreens used to make the very best, then they eliminated soda fountains from their stores :hit:hit.

When I want to lose weight, I eat LESS. When I want to gain weight, I eat MORE. I'm very petite (bantam sized) so it doesn't take much to feel satisfied. I generally do not take a "doggy bag," after not finishing meal in a restaurant. Sometimes eating or NOT, is dependent on the bus dispatcher. He will decide his favorite* seniors can ride(certain stores) but not me.

* there is a senior apartment complex at the back of the bus parking lot.

Good morning OF.

Seriously give it a try. "If it's white, it's not good for me." really works. Sadly that eliminates many of my favorites. When I am strict about limiting carbs, I ,too, lose weight. 2 years ago the doctor read me the riot act for being too thin. My problem is that I can do 'none', but 'a little bit' or 'just one more' doesn't work for me. Yeah, I have a 'somewhat' addictive personality. :lau

I had a really rough time of it after I had my gall bladder taken out. I couldn't tolerate any fats in my diet and for months I lived on baked chicken breasts, plain potatoes and veggies. I am 5'2" tall and got down well under 110 pounds. I looked like a skeleton since I am small framed. When the new doctor did my labs, I got a phone call from them and the nurse congratulated me for having the lowest posted cholesterol level on record for their practice. When I started chanting, 'I'm number 1! I'm number 1!' she got serious and told me that it wasn't a number to be proud of. My cholesterol was 89 and I was at risk of my body shutting down due to a lack of fat in my diet. EAT! she told me.

Man I love it when doctors tell you that!

A dietitian told a friend of mine to eat a lot of 'color' in their diet. Bright veggies like squash, green beans, etc.

I have to admit that I do love a good twice baked potato though, which is what we are having for dinner tonight. DH and I try to not eat meat twice a week. Fish one night, then meatless for another, substituting cheese for meat.

She didn't buy Oreos, but she came home with donuts.
I made some homemade cookie dough that I shaped into balls and froze for baking in small batches. This way I will only eat a couple at a time and not a whole bag full!

Mocha Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 ½ C Flour1 C Brown Sugar
1tsp. salt½ C white sugar
1 tsp baking soda1 tsp vanilla
1 C Mocha Cappuccino Mix2 eggs
2 Cubes Butter1 C Chocolate Chips

Preheat oven to 375°F.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda and cappuccino mix.

In a separate medium bowl, beat together the butter and sugar. Add vanilla and egg and beat until smooth.

Mix dry ingredients into the batter. Stir in Chocolate chips. Drop by rounded teaspoonful’s onto and ungreased baking sheets.

Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest a few minutes. Using a spatula, transfer cookies from baking sheet to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Makes 48 cookies.
