Ron I don't know whether to use the sad emoji or the mad one on your post.

It's currently 11 degrees here now, down to 3. We have 8 inches of snow on the ground with another 2 called on by Friday. They haven't plowed our road yet. No delivery trucks can get through, we can't get out.

I am so ready for spring and so are my chickens. They have been penned up for over a week now. I have to go out twice a day and hammer the ice off their water bowls as one of them took a dump and stopped heating and the other one, well, it doesn't heat to start with so I just take my frustration out on it with a hammer.

They are calling for -8 or -9 over the weekend as lows. One high was -3 at one point but I think they have been moving the temps up a bit here. It's very unusual weather for this time of the year here in MO. Today DH said he wished we had chosen down state about 200 miles to retire to.

I'm still fighting the creeping crud but slowly feeling better so I guess I'm going to live.

You know your weather is bad when you look at 35 degree highs and think.....heat wave.....ahhhhh.

@CSolis, DH and I are marveling at the pictures. I don't think that rooster is leaving the house. You may have to bring the hens to him!

I hate to bring up the covid vaccine thing again but we had an interesting thing happen today. The VA called my husband and asked him if he was interested in getting the covid vaccine as they were having a one day clinic at their VA center. He said well he was interested but had a lot of questions so they put him through to his doctor's nurse. He told her his concerns, us both being high risk and immuno suppressed blah blah blah and asked about the overall safety of the vaccine given that we both had some pretty severe side effects from flu vac and prevnar for pneumonia. They couldn't answer one question for him which I thought was weird. We had read an article of Facebook of all places this morning about the vaccine and it was very educational. Educational enough that it put a lot of questions in our heads. He told them that even if he could we are currently snowed in so he was going to have to pass for now.

I'm waiting till I can talk to my Rheumy next month and then my PCP before making a decision. One of the things I read is if you take steroids, the effectiveness of the vaccine may be diminished and you will have to continue to wear masks and keep personal distance, avoid crowds. Sigh....so why get the vaccine? They couldn't answer that question for my husband either.

I told him it wasn't setting off Red alert claxons in my head but the yellow alert warning are flashing rapidly in my head.

I think we would much rather wait for further generations of the vaccine to be developed. Plus they are saying for couples not to take the vaccine at the same time so one can take care of the other during side effects.

That is not very reassuring.

@getaclue, I sure home you MIL is doing better. I hate to hear that she is going through what she is going through. Vaccines are supposed to help you. Not endanger your life. That is what bothers me about this whole thing. There are too many variables to be considered that haven't been addressed yet for me to feel completely comfortable with getting the vaccine. We have been doing this for a year now and DH and I are basically what you would call loners when things are normal so like the cartoon with Clint Eastwood sitting on his porch....

Between the two of us we have almost 75 years of serving the public so yep, that pretty much describes us.

micro, It's important for each of us to assess our individual situation, and use our best judgement in regards to our own situation as to whether to get the vaccine. No medication is one-size-fits-all. Many medications are safe on their own, but can/do interact negatively with other medications, supplements, or foods. Since the vaccine is new, and there are many unknown factors, there is nothing wrong with waiting, if you feel that's best.

I take 2 cancer drugs that each have long lists of drug interaction warnings. At the top of the list on one of them is a warning not to consume grapefruit in any form while taking this medication. The other has strong warnings against St. John's Wort. Those are not even medications. There are plenty of medications they warn against taking while on the cancer medications. Again, there is nothing wrong with waiting, until further information comes in, regarding things like this.

Too, I'm not overly concerned about getting covid again. I've had it twice already. The first time was rough. I'm not saying it wasn't. 5 months later when I got it again, I still had enough residual immunity from getting it the first time, that the second time was a breeze.

My MIL doesn't really like her physical therapist, but other than that, she's doing better.

@getaclue, thank you for the uplifting reply. I agree with you 100%. I remember you having covid twice. Bet you felt like you had a bullseye painted on your chest but I'm glad the second time wasn't as bad as the first.

No matter what happens, I sure there will be many changes to the vaccine as the years progress. Many of us remember when the polio vaccine was rolled out. It was about the same, mass vaccinating clinics, questions, uncertainty but polio was such a deadly life changing disease for kids that parents went with it and now polio is eradicated in America.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the same thing happens with Covid. Although the infection rate is much higher than polio was, and undoubtedly it will take years to get it completely under control.

Day 4 and still no snow plow. Glad we are stocked up on food.
