Then there is no reason to rip the valve body out! Doing so wouldn't give you access to anything related to the drip unless that is a really bizarre valve body. It is accessible from the front after you take the chrome trim piece off. Probably need to remove some screws (Kohler) or a U shaped clip (Moen/Delta).
When my parents added on to the house I grew up in they added a bathroom (nearly 60 years ago). I think it was a Delta valve and had a button you pushed in to divert the water to the shower head. At some point we had to pull it back out when the water was turned off. After more time we had a pair of pliers in the shower to grip and pull it out. Eventually, (maybe 25 years ago) we replaced the cartridge and the button thing. We had forgotten that it originally popped out on its own when the water was shut off. It was still working fine when Mom died in 2003.
