The Old Folks Home

Excuse me. :frow This is not my normal thread, pardon me for jumping in. I think I heard that this was one of @perchie.girl's hang outs? And I knew she was sick. But we just heard the other day, on Granny's thread, that she had passed away. And i wanted to come over and let you all know how sorry I am for y'all's loss. I used to kind of "follow" along on her cooking and canning thread, which i've lost track of. She was sweet and cheerful and helpful, and optimistic and strong. She inspired me to buy a pressure canner! And I've used it, too! I would have loved to have met her "IRL." She will be remembered, and she is missed. Rest in peace, sweet lady.🥀
Nice to have you visit stop in if you like. We all will miss her

Happy 29 years to my husband and me! ♥️💜♥️💜. Just sayin!
Good for both of you congratulations

Ya didn't mention the breed!! Beautiful chickipoos! ♥️
The two on the right are FBCM and the blue one is an olive egger (Marans x Cuckoo Bluebar)

I hope the incubator is more stable this time!
I think it was more or less I put in all the very first eggs laid -- even those during our cold snap/blizzard -- and I think Stew missed the fact the girls had started again. Plus the TJ's eggs (almost 2 doz) were duds (probably left on a loading dock for too long.)
I've got 22 in the Brinsea now (2 shifts of eggs, so we're having staggered hatches) and will candle them in the next few days.

Congratulations Cynthia and DH!

If you count the alpacas coming out and trying to find some grass under the solar panels where the snow has melted, yes. And no, they didn't find anything. They won't either, at least not until the end of April.

What was the ratio of pro vs con?
It was 60% yes and 40% no.

Me thinks a regular old fashioned thermometer will tell me if the styrofoam incubator will hold a steady temp. Not sure I trust the digital thermometer, but it shows humidity too.
Years ago on this thread there was a member named bamadude that was resistant to using a quality thermometer. He finally took my advice and bought a brinsea spot check-- a digital thermometer made specifically for incubating.

His hatch rates went from terrible to very good after that.

Temperature is the number one most important factor in hatching. Number one!
