Excuse me. :frow This is not my normal thread, pardon me for jumping in. I think I heard that this was one of @perchie.girl's hang outs? And I knew she was sick. But we just heard the other day, on Granny's thread, that she had passed away. And i wanted to come over and let you all know how sorry I am for y'all's loss. I used to kind of "follow" along on her cooking and canning thread, which i've lost track of. She was sweet and cheerful and helpful, and optimistic and strong. She inspired me to buy a pressure canner! And I've used it, too! I would have loved to have met her "IRL." She will be remembered, and she is missed. Rest in peace, sweet lady.🥀
Welcome Blue! :frow Debbie will be missed.

I'd forgotten that this Sunday is the shortest day of the year. 23 hours.

I used to wish it was DST all year round, if it had to be one or the other. Now I wish they'd leave it on standard time. Last summer, the birds didn't put themselves to bed until 9 or so. I'm pretty done in by then and want to go to bed.

After the change this Sunday, it'll be 7:45-8 pm.

Silly humans for putting numbers to the daylight.

Dec 21st is the shortest day of the year. Mar 21st is when the sun passes over the equator on it's way north to start the spring. Well, it's not moving, the earth's tilt is changing.

Oh, yes, I know. But since we lose an hour on the day "spring forward" day, it's 23 hours. That's why I call it the shortest day. Conversely, "fall back" day is the longest, since we repeat an hour. :gig Just being my silly self.

The solstice is the shortest period of daylight, and something I look forward to getting to and getting past. The long dark hours are depressing to me.

Sounds like 'SADS' Seasonal Depression. A sunlamp can help that along with Vit-D, though I admit that cabin fever was getting me down as well. Weather has warmed up here, and the sun is shining brightly. Took about a week to get over all the tired from sitting on me arse all winter. I need to be active, not sitting around. I did get out every opportunity available, however it rains a lot here during the winter months.

Anyone in here have a broody 'roo'? My cockoo marans roo is sitting on Henrietta's eggs again. He just sits in there and coos and chuckles and has a great time while Henrietta could care less. He will eventually come out when he figures out they don't hatch in a few hours, but it's fun to watch and listen too. He and his offspring, as well as a Beilefelder cockerel all talk to their 'treats' too. Never seen anything like it. Give them a treat and they start chuckling and walking about, dropping in on the ground inspecting it. None of my 4 boys will pick a treat up off the ground, they all stand and wait to be handed their goodies.
