The Old Folks Home

Morning, all! I have the day off work. Been playing with the idea of trading in the van for a SUV, but keep debating. May or may not look into this today. There are other things around the house that need to be done.

The eggs are due to hatch tomorrow, but I candled them the other day and there were no survivors after the egg turner quit, followed by the humidity gauge going haywire. I'll probably set another batch in a week or so. The new humidity gauge got here yesterday.

Last week a co-worker told me I shouldn't be working at my age. I feel like I'm in my 40's, except for that little glitch about getting up after I've been sitting or laying down for a while. Never listen to kids. :hmm

I'm not up to 50 birds (yet?) and hope not to be.. I've got eggs coming out my ears.. neighbors haven't returned the 3 egg flats the eggs left in, even after I asked them to PLEASE bring back the flats.
I've got 21 outside now, 4 that are 3 weeks old in one brooder, 6 in each of two more that Hatched over the weekend, and another 12 in the incubator. I need to have my brainz checked to see if they are still functioning. But I do plan on selling those I hatch from my eggs, except one or two exceptional keepers. I have to pick and choose now, to establish two more flocks, plus add to existing flocks. Prince needs some more ladies. Bruce has 4 and could stand one or two more... Then there's half of the big pen that's sorta empty (the gate between the two pens is open so Bruce and his ladies get to roam a bit more. And of course, I'm putting all the red ladies in with my BO and one EE cockerel just for kicks. Now which one shall I stick in there? Hmmmmm?

50 is a lot of hens for home eggs!

Let's see....OK isn't that far from MO. I could borrow the neighbor's trailer, no wait, they have cows. I don't think DH is going to go along with driving to Oklahoma for fertilizer when there are piles of it next door, plus the chicken poop.

My parents always grew the best gardens when I had my horses and local green houses were vying for my compost offerings from my stalls and corral. IMHO there is no better fertilizer than horse or cow composted manure. Our soil here is poor. Ridge soil is notoriously poor quality. Except where we planted our orchard and there was a corral there when we moved in. Those trees LOVE that rich soil.

I've got a hen going broody. Don't think it would take much to push her over the edge. I've taken eggs away from her for four days now and when I move her from the nest her belly is boiling hot.

Now do I dare stick some Fayoumis eggs under her or don't I? Angel on the right shoulder arguing with the devil on the left.
It is a risk putting eggs under a broody!

It is fun to let them hatch out chicks though.

Dh was able to talk to his son this afternoon. He has been transferred to a rehab facility. At this point, I'm not sure that depression is the entirety of his problem. There seems to be an alcohol, and possible drug problem as well. I had mentioned to a friend that I knew he had been a pretty heavy drinker, while single. I wondered if that might have something to do with her wanting to leave him. Of course, there has been no mention of what type of pills he took, so he may simply be in there because of the type pills he ingested. He doesn't know how long he'll be in there. They will re-assess him on Saturday.

When he's released, he'll go live with his ex-step mother, and her wife. They have a very nice double wide on their place, that is vacant. He's moving back in there. That's where he was living before he got married.

We can't just make up the back payments, and get his car out of hock. They want the entire remainder of the balance. He's already paid on it for 2 years, but still owes 2 years worth of payments, totaling $11,000.00. His mother is willing to pay off the balance for him, so he has transportation to go back to work.

At least Dh knows more now, and is not so upset, imagining the worst.
It sounds like things will work out! It is good that He is getting help.
I had called to schedule the ultrasound my doctor ordered. I called one place local to me, that I haven't used before, and asked if they take my insurance. Their insurance person was out until the next day. I'm NOT paying for this out of pocket.

I called where I normally have it done. It took awhile to get through, but finally, I did. All I had to do was FAX a copy of the order, and they would call me back to schedule it. She gave me their new FAX number. I tried multiple times, but didn't get the "handshake". The last time I tried, someone answered the phone. They explained that I was given the number a day too early, and I needed to FAX it this morning. I did. About an hour later, I got a call. Normally, ultrasounds go through the imaging dept., BUT I need a venous doppler, which is done through the hematology dept. I was given the number to call there. It was explained that they have 1 tech that works there, so leave a message. The tech follows up on calls between patients.

Finally, the tech called. She explained she would not be working tomorrow, and scheduled me for Monday, however, informed me that a venous doppler is for a DVT (blood clot). She explained that's very serious, and doctors usually want the results as soon as possible. Since I had already been delayed by the run-around, she recommended another place I might want to call, to see if they can get me in tomorrow.
I called, but by then it was almost closing time, and the person that schedules, was gone for the day. I need to call them at 7:30 in the morning.

Dd #1 goes to her nursing classes from Tues. to Thurs., and I watch her kids while she's gone, so I'm trying to get all this done, while watching the 3 grands, and while all the other commotion is going on.

BTW, it seems that any medical facility I call, has to do a 5 minute spiel about covid, before they even get to the menu, which means it take even longer to get through, and get the call routed to where it needs to go.

Never a dull moment around here.
I hope the testing goes well and there is an updated today.

Ridiculous co-worker.

If you want to, or need to work... no reason to stop working.

My dad worked until he literally could no longer talk or walk. He loved his job.
