The Old Folks Home

These beautiful little girl pictures are just too adorable, good grief, how do you two ever get anything done? I would spend every minute just gazing at them!

Ron I'm interested in more info about Blackhead and treating chickens for it - while I am all in favor of resistance, I am trying (with zero success so far) to hatch some Midget Whites, which I plan to raise with chicks, and I suppose I'd better be prepared. The idea for me is to have a turkey or two around to try and inoculate my chickens against Marek's in a natural way, and I want small turkeys.

Oh - and Oz, tell Mrs. Oz, great job! They are precious! Having raised only one boy child I missed out on all the fun little girl things, so I live vicariously through you and tnspursfan when you post these sweet pictures of your little girls.

Di Di? SCG? Linda? (I haven't forgotten your package, I'm adding to it) KFrodo? Tnspursfan09, are you brave enough? Come on, you can do it!

2015 is going to be a rough year for me. Oldest daughter is graduating high school and starting her first year at Auburn.

I'll be so broke I will only be able to afford to eat Peanut butter sandwiches....

I found this:

Although Black head can come from earth worms, it usually does not. I would follow the Prevention methods above and treat the chickens monthly with Dimetridazole(Check for withdrawal) to help control the load in the Turkeys. I might try treating the ground with Litter Life(Southland Organics) too.

Do not put Turkeys on the same ground where you raised Broilers. They seem to be the worst carries of Black Head.

SCG the quilt is beautiful and I am sure the little girl it is for will love it.  :thumbsup

Thanks. My sister and mom both said "NO!" but besides being blue and not really "girly" I couldn't see anything wrong with it. The other option I have is to keep it or give it away as a "lap quilt" as no one I know is having boys and it's really baby or "lap" sized at only 4 feet by 4 feet. I have two technicians under me in my pharmacy that are having baby girls within the next month. If I give this to technician A then I will certainly have to give one to technician B, and I'm already committed to making a wedding quilt for someone eloping at the end of this month (although that one is not quite as time sensitive). This pattern doesn't take long at all, I got most of it done within about 6 hours, the next one should be much faster if I do determine that is its fate and that it needs to be repeated. I personally don't need a quilt - have a few my sister has made me and I'm working on a queen sized one for myself as well. I guess that's one problem with quilting - finding someone to gift it to.

SCG, I don't have time to catch up on all the possible responses you may have gotten about the quilt, but if you really are not sure what to do with it, I know it would find a very loving home at a nearby nursing home. Often full size quilts are too heavy for cold legs but one this size would probably be perfect. :thumbsup Just an idea.

Happy Birthday to Maddie!!! What beautiful little girls you all have posted pictures of! Makes me miss my grandbabies

....even more!

Get well soon Oz!! Time to do some chicken soup!!

I think the blue on the quilt is beautiful SCG. It would be loved by any lucky person who receives it.

Wisher-- I don't have blackhead here so I don't know a lot about it. When I quired Walt about why he didn't have turkeys, he said they all die. Hence no turkeys.

THe little I know is that chickens and turkeys need to be housed ( coop and run) separately. Not much help am I??

Interesting Arielle - I know two folks here who run turkeys and chickens together with no problems. I wonder if it's because it is so dry here?

@sewandgrow keeps a Turkey with her chickens in Turlock--to expose them to Turkey mareks.
