The Old Folks Home

I got them Saturday, so tonight (Monday) will be their third night here. I think the Jubilee Orp is a couple days older than the Blues; I thought she said the Orps were hatched Wednesday. I think the Blues were Thursday. I have Save-a-Chick in their water.

That's what the breeder said! She said a LOT of hatches have gone south everywhere, commercial, breeders, and backyards. She told me someone kind of jokingly suggested it was all the 5G towers... but maybe that could be part of it.

Anyone heard anything about that?
No, I havent heard that, I think it is no more than what has typically gone on, it is just a very delicate business. When chicks ship they get cold, they are not kept warm except for the heat from the other chicks, this is why its recommended to buy 6 or more. Last year I got 15 and a rooster, one did die the first night because everyone laid on it after I went to bed. I kept 4 and the rooster and the rest went to my son.

5pm, dinner time and I am calling it a day, Ya'll sleep well

You guys will be running out and buying winter coats with those temps! Just kidding. But if you aren't used to cool temps it is a bit of an adjustment, just like getting used to hot temps here.

The Amish wear long sleeves all year long. The women black bonnets and black shawl like things in the summer no less. I asked them once how they stood it when the temp is 98° in the shade. Their reply? Oh, you get used to it.

Used to heat stroke?

But on a brighter note I just read a news story about California beaches being hit by tick with growing fear of Lyme Disease! I'm sure you guys could live without that. But earthquakes AND ticks?

Me Me! More rain!

I was out mowing late this afternoon and happened to glance to the east north east. There was a big old honking storm hanging there and I could hear the rumble of thunder. I wasn't too worried. We seldom have storms come out of that direction. I did some more mowing, got busy watering my container tomatoes and tomatillos, did some more mowing and lo and behold it started raining and has been raining ever since! Just a nice steady shower.

Of course! I watered some of the garden so it rained!

Could use some of that rain to help cool things down a little. 80° and it's 10 pm. No air blowing. Chickens are laying an egg a day but look like a wilted leaf in mid day sun!
