The Old Folks Home

penny, for years I used Frontline on my dogs. Eventually, as in your case, it seemed to stop working. My vet explained that using the same product for too long, the fleas develop a resistance. From then on, I switched each year from Frontline to Advantage, and back. I never had that problem again with them not working.

I wonder if the problem with the resistance can happen with other types of meds too besides the topical? Like for example with the Seresto collars or the chewables. Brewster is on the chewables and now you have me worried it’s going to stop working lol

I never really used the collars, or the chewables, so I can't really say if a resistance can develop over time. I had 5 Chow Chows, and used the topical. Still, there are several brands of chewables, as well as several brands of collars, which tend to use different active ingredients, so if a resistance to one product develops, you have the option to switch to another product.

Thanks! That makes sense! I’m glad there’s more brands of those available now considering it’s somewhat new

Careful with that. I would guess one might do it. I thought the Ramik was disappearing because the rats ate all of it. Nope, after the rats were long gone I found some stashed nowhere near where I placed it for them down in the lower part of the barn.

I can't be sure but I suspect a couple of the juvenile skunks found a cache. Can't think of any other reason they would be dead side by side in the drive bay without a mark on them. They had been happily romping in the grass in front of the barn, between the barns and behind the barns for at least a week.I hadn't even seen the parent until that same morning when it was in the Havahart I set out for the young ones.
Thanks for the heads up, Bruce. I'll have to change my SOP for dealing with rats. I've never heard of them doing that.

The storm that went over last night pretty much dropped rain on us all night....and most of the day. It's finally letting up. 7 inches in 24 hours. Never thought I'd live in a state that had monsoons. Rooster coop is flooded....again.

Then the roof to the house sprung a leak. Metal. We don't think the right sized peak cap is on it. It's on the to do list now. But good news. The rain is letting up. Only see one more small cell moving in then no more rain till Thursday? I hope. Things really need to dry out here.

Leaking roof..

My condolences.

micro, sorry about your roof. Some of those metal roofs come with a very long - up to lifetime warranty. If you know who installed it, you might want to check with them. It may be covered under your warranty. Homeowner's insurance might be another option, depending on the deductible, and how much water damage was done when it leaked.

It could be that it's been leaking for awhile, and you only discovered it, because it rained so heavy. Just make sure to inspect it well.
