The Old Folks Home

I never knew there was something like flying ant day! I came home from visiting DH and left the chickens out for exercise and they fanned across the yard as of they were eating worms but there were no worms. Then I saw all these ant hills all over the yard covered in flies. The chickens always stay close to me but all of a sudden there was no boundaries until it poured rain. All my years I never saw the air so full of flies.

I put it in the brooder got 2 2 and half week olds in it now will half to keep an eye on them and see what happens
I'm watching the one and only egg out of a batch of 13 to hatch. One of Bonnie's tykes. She didn't do a very good job of brooding so next time around I'm stealing her eggs as she lays them then I'll starting incubating when there are 6. Think I'll name this on OH! for O Solo Mio.

It's a brown rat snake, non venomous. If they would just stick to eating mice and rats around here I wouldn't mind. But going in pens and resting on top of nesting boxes is just too much.
Sorry @drumstick diva but after having my first broody hen killed by a rat snake and then munching on 5 of her hatchlings and killing the sixth, if I find them near my chooks, it's their mistake, not mine.

I feel like I got a lot done today. I have even more to do tomorrow, but at least some of it does not involve sweating. :)
I know what you mean, I did some weed eating, then went over to the area that I've been hacking away at. Cub Cadet didn't want to cooperate today so raked up what I had gotten cut down last week and piled it on top of the brush pile for burning. Then came back in, changed to something cooler and went out to feed and water the chooks. Then decided to rework K.E. and his gal's pen while they were out chasing bugs and wreaking havoc. instead of one pole in the center keeping the tarp angled so rain wouldn't collect on top, I used fresh privet branches 6' long to make a curved top. Then divided the front chicken yard from the back with the left over dog kennel panels. Raked up around the front chicken yard and gave up for the day. When I'm in motion I stay in motion, then when I sit I sit.
