The Old Folks Home

Morning old folks! Stay safe, stay cool! We have a heat advisory through Thursday here. I need to pick tomatoes and green beans for the freezer and should process a few squash not to mention pick up more that I tossed out of the garden and into the yard last week.

I have no idea what I am going to do with all of them. DH and I will be eating a lot of squash this winter.
Feed to the chickens

I finished building the feeding station enclosure and it has a coat of paint. Two hours until recoating. Then I call it done! Another thing for the clutteration of the run.

I'm planning to take down the separating fence between the littles' and the adults' area on Saturday. When they get up and go outside, everything will be rearranged, for everyone. Everyone will have new things to get used to, and I hope it takes the low hen's mind off of pecking at the littles.

I was planning on doing it Thursday, but I'm going to be gone part of Friday. If things go south Friday morning when I'm gone, that could be trouble.

It gives me two days to build something else! I'm really having fun making stuff out of skid wood.

Howdy folks!

It's a little cooler here today, only 92 right now. It was 93 earlier. We've spent the day watching for the UPS truck to come. I ordered vaccines for the dogs, Parvo, Lepto from Jefferspets.com and didn't want them to sit out in the sun. They were room temp when I unwrapped them so into the refrigerator they went. I'll start vaccinating tomorrow.

Other than that I've stayed in most of the day. Froze another quart of tomatoes and green beans. My second planting of beans is doing well in spite of the heat. No break in sight till the weekend for us here. Our poor Air Conditioner is struggling to keep up.

@CapricornFarm! Yikes! We have copperheads here. I've never seen one thank goodness but they say they are in the timber. I found a fresh dead ribbon snake a few days ago. (lawn mower victim) Pretty thing. Iridescent blue with black stripes the length of it's body. It was well over a foot long and as big around as a pencil. I gave it to the chooks. They squawked and squeaked around it until they figure out it was fresh protein.

And yes, there is a big bowl of squash seeds and goo in the fridge for them tonight.

I don't know what I'd do if I saw a copperhead, though.

Ups here has a tracker that will show me where the truck is on a map!

When it works. One time the truck looked like it was in a parking lot for a long time...and then a UPS truck showed up with the delivery! The truck with the tracker broke down and they did not move the tracker to the new truck!
