I'm sorry to hear that you are worn out,
@CapricornFarm but completely understand how you feel.
I've lost 5 birds this summer. One hen to ascites probable internal laying, One rooster to a fight, one hen to mating aggression and the two I butchered last week that were responsible for the hen being killed by mating aggression. I have stuck to my guns about not hatching any chicks this year. Right now I have four roosters who are still more assertive than I like my roosters to be. I want to keep two as back ups for my two large boys who are the flock masters. The other two are going to freezer camp.
I just have to figure out which of the four are better behaved. There is also the train of thought that has me getting rid of 3 and keeping one then getting another Fayoumi rooster next summer. Decisions decisions.
Truthfully, I've missed hatching but like you the work and stress was wearing me down. Next summer I would like to get some bantam hens and a few more Fayoumi hens. Once again, I'd like to keep them from hatching as I just am worn out from dealing with roosters and for some reason they seem to hatch more roosters than hens.
Just don't need them or need to deal with them. The bantam boys and Tut are very nice birds as are Trubel, Tut's son. Getting too many stinkers is enough to put any one off when it comes to dealing with their behaviors. Usually they settle down after they are one year old but not these boys.
You are making the right decision though. Get down to a number that is comfortable for you and take care of Cap.
Sorry to hear about your truck. Never rains but it pours.
