Ahh... Men at Work, Midnight Oil and Crowded House - three bands I grew up with. I always found Peter Garrett's story (politician to lead singer of Midnight Oil and back to politician again) fascinating. And then there is that great Australian/New Zealand collaboration, Crowded House. I remember seeing them on their farewell tour.

A couple of others from back then - INXS and Jimmy Barnes.

I saw Cold Chisel (Jimmy Barnes) when I was 15 also AC/DC, Skyhooks, Richard Clapton, Ol' 55, Jon English, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons, The Angels, The Radiators, Australian Crawl, Dragon, and Rose Tattoo during my youth

As an adult (>40) I have seen Billy Joel, Elton John, Cher, Bruce Sprinstein, U2, the Stones, Hall and Oats, Rod Stewart and oh so many more. The Hollywood Bowl is a great venue for the huge but not quite mega famous. Outdoor concerts on a weekend night in summer.

As I type Mrs Oz is in Bali.

Its a funny place, Its a bit like Mexico in some ways - many people go there but very few get to see under the tourist's manicured surface, There is a whole ecosystem of culture that goes on inspite of tourism

On my first trip I was befriended by a family who treat me as one of their own. They are part of the roal family of a region in Bali. 2 of my 3 brothers as well as my sister have been and all treated to the wonders of the "real" Bali

They are off to a temple - one of the 6 major temples of bali but also one of the least visited by tourists. Mrs Oz was there with me 5 years ago.

Ahhh yes...I remember 80's music. We were in Cuba then, and only had AFRTS to listen to on base. So we got whatever the station played for the military. We had even bought a second hand stereo system. But then, shipping it back to the states, the whole thing got broke. So, I had no radio or stereo till 98. We had nothing but the car radios and cassette players.

I was out of any music loop for years.

I can hear " We com from a land down under" in my head-- yup another great song-- and that from Men at Work.

I need to listen to the radio more often-- brain is getting fuzzy! lol

I should listen to more music. In the car, I usually listen to NPR, KMOX (the local news/talk station) or KFNS (a 24 hour sports station) and late night KTRS carries 'Coast to Coast AM'. Weird enough stuff to keep me awake on a long drive.
Our cable TV company has 45 or so music channels. Every genre one can imagine from classical, swing, blues, jazz, pop, country, 60s, 70s, 80s. There's even toddler tunes.
They even break it down further. For instance in Latino music they have Mexicana, Tropicales, Urbana and Latino pop.

Same way I like to travel.
Fly into a major tourist destination (cheapest flights) then hop on a bus or rent a car and get as far away as possible.

Men at Work, brings back memories.

I'm really out of touch with most new music but I like roots reggae, Celtic, blues, classical, new age classical and of course, rock.
I can't handle much rap and have never been a big country fan but I always liked Johnny Cash and crossover country rock like Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels.
There's no way I could remember all the concerts I've been to. Here's a walk down memory lane. A few of the memorable ones were:

Other KC concerts were Rolling Stones, Triumph, Supertramp, Survivor, Heart, Quarterflash, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Foreigner,

Backstage at a Carlos Santana concert in Frankfurt Germany,
Other concerts in Germany were Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Rory Gallagher (twice), Deep Purple, Ten Years After, JJ Cale, Jo Jo Gunn, Z Z Top, Uriah Heep, Sly and the Family Stone, Focus, Roxy Music, Golden Earing, etc.

Houston concerts, Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead.

Outdoor concerts at Southern Illinois University, Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc.

Several concerts that were held in a big barn called the Annex, no seats and concrete floor. It housed circus elephants and horses in St. L. because they didn't trust us not to destroy a real concert venue (Alice Cooper - twice, Black Sabbath- twice, Black Oak Arkansas, Ted Nugent)

That's all I can remember for now. I know there are a lot more in KC and in Germany. I ran the KC edition of Concert Scene magazine and got two tickets and press pass for every concert for a writer and photographer. If it was a concert I wanted to see, I'd claim the tickets. I watched the KC Summerfests at Arrowhead stadium from the RCA suite. All the bands hung out in there between sets.
In Germany we drove to Frankfurt for concerts and music festivals ever chance we got.

If you've never seen Rory Gallagher, he was a blues guitarrist from Ireland and one of the best guitarists ever. I've seen him 4 times and that wasn't enough.

A couple younger co-workers/friends were discussing new artists they liked and I didn't know any of them. They said, "we need to get you into some alternative music".
I said, "I listen to alternative music, just today I listened to a South African reggae band, an Irish Donegal fiddle, Portuguese Pimba and some new age classical from Japan".
They said, "not THAT alternative".

I forgot, I saw the Supremes in Switzerland and my son and I saw 'Celtic Woman' a few years ago.
