The Old Folks Home

My friend's peke a poo, lived to be 17 despite the fact that she fed him human food and in quantities to get him to 40 lbs. The poor dog was so overweight, he could barely huff and puff around the block. Her vet assured her he was in good weight. Horse hockey! Why would he worry - she brought him in once a year for check up, shots, and heartworm meds., that she said came to $ 400 for the visit.

He looked more like a Cocker Spaniel cross. I had a CH. stud dog Cocker that was 26 lbs., taller than her mixed breed and slimmer. He had 9 pts. toward his championship but, hated riding in a car. So I just let him retire. He loved the girls just like his sire, who had 20 chs. to his credit.

Morning all. It was 57 here this morning going up to 85 but it is a BEAUTIFUL early fall day. First time that I woke up and smiled at the realization that it 'smelled' like late summer early fall outside. I don't think I could live in an area that didn't have 'seasons' that I can see and feel in the air. I used to be able to tell what month of the year it was by the fields of corn and the work that the farmers were doing in them. It' s harder here where mainly people ranch and raise cattle and sheep.

But I love this weather.

My hand and arm continue to improve slowly. The swelling is down today as is the pain so I'm hoping for steady improvement from now on. Still wearing a wrist brace to keep my wrist stable and not pop open the puncture wound any more than I have already.

Y'all have a great day!

Fall is DH's favorite season too. I'm more partial to summer, though this summer got a bit excessive. I really like the long hours of daylight.

Freya the new puppy continues to do very well. Twice I've had her confined in the kitchen for 3-4 hours while I ran errands. Both times she was very good. No accidents, no pulling anything off/down/out. There has been some minor chewing on door trim, but I can live with it. This is training for September 18 when we go to the Muskegon Irish Music Festival, such as it will be this year. Dogs are not allowed. :(

Tomorrow, we are visiting our best friends who have a dog. Hopefully the girls hit it off.

About half of them were males I bet.

You could live in California. They have fire season and not fire season. Ask @ronott1 if he can tell it is fire season by sight and smell ;) Sure would be nice if that weren't true :(
