The Old Folks Home

Been counting chickens and posting ads. Plan to sell all my chickens except the bantam polish.

Some of my Mille Fleurs

Lol, I took Gator out on a leash to limit he's activity since he's a bit gimpy on the left rear leg. We've finally wrapped it with vet wrap from knee to ankle and voila, he's not limping. Must have pulled a hamstring jumping in to the jeep, that was the day he tried and fell butt over tin cup back out.
While we were out there, I notice Bruce the Magnificent laying on top of the deer netting that covers their run. So, after putting Gator back in the house, I go down to find Sweetpea out free ranging, Bruce laying in the netting like a hammock, and three other hens/pullets on the wrong side of the divider. They had made a hole large enough in the netting to go helter skelter. I got Bruce moved and he went over the fence line to wander around too. I had to assess the damage before I could make a decision on what to do. Okay, cut down the three trunks of the privet that made it possible, get all of those out of the deer netting, repair the hole in the netting, make more roosts from said trunks and get everyone back in the run. But, to do that they would have to pass through the other side to get to the gate in the divider.
Hellsbells.. Think some more. I caught Bruce when he was least expecting to get caught and toted him back in the run. Maggie had done a complete circuit of the runs and was standing next to the gate that separates front and back free ranges. That was easy.. And she went right in the open door of the pen, only to be chased by Greystoke's kids through the gate to her side. I decided on a portable alleyway I can move to let that back group out to free range and got that done. Just in time for lunch.

^^ The three sections of trunk removed. Also destroyed the bridge that possums used to get into the run.

Now serving as more roosting area

New moveable alleyway fence! Now I don't have to install an upright 6x6, cut chain link fence and install another gate to the outside.. Thank YOU Lord!

Bruce back safe and sound with is ladies.

My birds will look all shiny and new until the spring hormones kick in and suddenly best buds become mortal enemies and start pulling the competition's tail feathers out.

I have three hens that are still growing back feathers and Trubel is finishing filling in some bare spots on his neck. They are so pretty when they are out of molt.

@CapricornFarm are you cutting back due to your health problems? Glad you aren't getting rid of all of them.
