The Old Folks Home

I hope nobody looses power. I also wish you guys luck on your hatches!

Ron the only thing here trying to green up is the weeds! :/

Thanks!

I have 95 eggs in two incubators. I am hatching New Heritage Dels, SG Dorkings, Partridge Penedesencas, UofA Blue egg layers and Crele x UofA Blue Egg layers.

I got all the colors covered!

Arielle, I was worried about the power going out too..as I also have eggs in bator..lock down.
It's still coming and going out there with the wind. Crazy stuff.
I love our mountains. Whenever we would be somewhere without them in our past travels, we always, sure miss seeing the mountains. :)
Hope you can get thru the next few weeks, lockdown and the early weeks after hatching!!

I don't leave home anymore-- I don't feel the need to as I love it right here. THough . . . . the scout master said they committee is discussing a trip to one of my two places to see but being scouts I wouldn''t get to go. THe next best thing is if I can help both my boys go!! Can you guess what it is?? THe colorado flows thru it.

It is 63 degrees here and the lawn mowers are running! I need to charge mine so that I can mow the grass tomorrow. It is getting quite tall and lushly green now.

The Plums and Almonds are about to bloom too. Next weekend is the Capay Valley Almond Festival.

Yesterday I drove through some petals from a blooming tree. That is as close to snow as we get here.

Sadly, I have to take my allergy pills all year long.
I hear ya ROn, I have allergies to horses and chickens.

What a lovely "snow fall" : petals!!

We only mow the lawn a few times a year - Juneish to Augustish.

I don't mow-- the chickens and turkeys eat it down.

I think I would like a blue egg layer at some point. I have a chicken laying a pinkish egg, but I don't know which one it is...
My NPIP agent is going to bring me some of his chicks or eggs from his pink egg layer again. My last ones did not do at all.

We have to much grass to cut, our yard is 3 acres. The rest is fenced for the cows so they take care of that most the time. lol

Arielle, I still can hardly believe that we both ordered our buckeyes from the same breeder! That is still just to funny! Maybe we can swap a bird back and forth now and then....

THat works for me!!

I'm still working up the nerve to talk to Mr Rhodes. If I can buy 20-30 eggs from him and hatch some chicks and run straight Rhodes, I would like that.

I talked to Jason Paige at the Northeast show-- right after he sold his last pullet. Darn. My understanding is that he is no longer selling / breeding buckeyes or chickens for that matter due to local laws in his area. What a shame. He was doing so well with them.

I will see what I can come up with for another source also. I will let you know when I find something.
Sorry you missed out on his last pullet! I have a couple of ideas floating around but I don't need to worry about it this year. Next year I will. lol

Thanks Ron I appreciate it very much. I do need some ideas before we start building. Since DH is in the mood to get creative....

He's over hauling the brooder he made last year, I am excited about his new ideas for it. And he is going to build me another one.
here are some of my run and coops

I use 5" lodge poles and six foot no climb fence. I put tent stakes at the bottom between the poles.
I cover the runs with heavy duty 2" poultry netting

I have 4 runs. 2 with larger coops and 2 with smaller coops.
I am building larger ones to replace the small though.
oh and I am building a few more runs
