The Old Folks Home

Another good chuckle for today... Went out to feed and water, and was gathering early morning eggs. When I got to the pen with Gen Lee, Turtle Dove (now laying) and Corn Puff there was one egg in the nest. When I went to get it. Corn Puff grabbed the back of my hand by the skin and tried her best to give it a good stomping. It's just so hilarious, at 18 weeks and still rather small (bantam cross) it was funny to see her guarding that egg for Turtle Dove. Then I scratched her chest and little bittie wattles and she was good to go!

There are 5 houses back here, and the only school age kids are homeschooled, so no buses have to come back here.
I don't know about there but in my town private roads get no treatment at all. The kids up the hill have to walk down to the town road for the school bus.

Our trash/recycle pickup is in our property taxes. Not my preferred method given how little trash we make. Would be cheaper if I could go to the transfer station. The people up the private road got tired of dragging their barrels up to a third of a mile to the town road REAL fast. They pay the hauler extra to go up the hill.

Oh, they never have come back the last 1/4 mile. There's a sign that says, "Road Ends," though you can see the road doesn't end there. That's just as far as the county will go. The rest is up to the people who live back here.

There are days we don't get mail because the county hasn't plowed. We have driven across the farmer's field to get out. But only when he's had corn there, so you can see the stalk stubs and can know how deep the snow is. :gig Last year it was wheat. We won't be driving out that way this year!
