The Old Folks Home

I have to admit, I'm just as pleased as punch with myself for being so thoughtful. Lil Ms Maggie who was ripped from back to belly by Bruce (he's just too big!) has completely healed. That tear was so big you could have put a golf ball in there. Bag Balm was not the solution as it was too gooey, so I decided to use Coconut Oil (God Save the Hen) instead. I doused her with warm coconut oil every other day, and to my amazement, the wound began to heal from the inside out. Coconut oil is precious and has antibacterial agents and collagen forming agents in it. So, today she's completely healed along with feather growth where once was a gaping hole. Still Ms Maggie won't come down from her perch, and her feathers have become heavy with natural oils. Solution? Turn the tub that's her lil house around, add a second tub (cement mixing tubs from Lowe's) and add a bucket of dirt! If ya can't get the bird to the ground to bathe, take the bath to them! It's been a couple of hours and true to form I look out from the deck and there she is, taking a dirt bath for the first time in months! It's a sight to behold.View attachment 2951715
Nice, but how do you squeeze a coconut?

I have 8 pens, each with it's own Rooster and hens. KE has the best of the lot. He's my bantam roo I got from Amanda, and he has a BCM, GLW, BO, CQ, and one of my own bred gals. He's please as punch! Prince Charming is the only solo bird I have. He left his ladies bare backed, so in a batchelor pad he went. He's my one winged wonder, but has produced some beautiful pullets for me.

Good afternoon! Lots of snow here. I shoveled the driveway, and a neighbor plowed from our drive out to the mail boxes. :bow

The county, however, has not plowed the road. I know they're very busy. Glad I don't have to go anywhere.
We live on a private road, so the county doesn't plow it at all. Of course, we live at the very end of this dirt road.

Same here. It's a private road for 1/4 mile. We're at the very end too. There are 5 houses back here, and the only school age kids are homeschooled, so no buses have to come back here. We are VERY low on the list for getting plowed out.

The house next door used to belong to a couple from Detroit. They had NO IDEA about living back here. It was their "weekend getaway spot."

"Who plows you out?" he asked.
"Well, we all sort of do it. DH is usually out with the snow blower."
"You could get someone to come back here to do it."
"For about $70-80 a trip? Uh, no."

They went home to Detroit one time and forgot to shut a door. They burned up their entire tank of propane, the house froze, and pipes broke. He laughed about it.

They lost the house to foreclosure in the 2008 crash.
